doug holmstrom

June 12, 1967 ~ September 2, 2024

Born in: Medina, North Dakota
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Doug died on Monday, September 2, 2024, at his home in Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, with his loving wife by his side.

Douglas Arthur Holmstrom was born on June 12, 1967, the son of Arthur and Eloyce (Zachrison) Holmstrom in Medina, North Dakota. He grew up on the family farm near Alfred, North Dakota and attended school in Gackle. Doug graduated from Gackle High School in 1985 and continued his education at Valley City State University.

After his college graduation, Doug began working for the Village Family Service Center in Fargo where he met his future wife, Carma Steenbock. They were united in marriage on March 2, 1996, at Hope Lutheran Church North Campus in Fargo. Doug and Carma made their home in Harwood where they raised their son, Landon.

Doug worked his entire career with computers – first with the Village Family Service Center, later at Midland Hospital Supply, and most recently as a Network Engineer for Cole Papers for the past 17 years.

Doug was a good man – you could always count on him. He was a man regarded as reliable and hardworking by his colleagues. Throughout his life, he displayed unwavering dedication to his work, always ensuring that every task was completed with precision and care. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on those around him.

Doug was a skilled craftsman and worked tirelessly remodeling their homes in Fargo – everything was immaculately finished. Most importantly, Doug was a family man – he loved his wife and loved being a good dad to Landon – and he treasured his “grandpa” title from Selah. When he wasn’t at home working on projects or spending time with family, he could be found enjoying a good game of golf. He will be missed by all that loved him. He will be remembered for the good man he was.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Carma of Fargo; his son, Landon (Quinci) Holmstrom of Valley City, North Dakota; his granddaughter, Selah Holmstrom; and his two sisters – Rita Rivinius and Linda (Jeff) Schott, all of Gackle, North Dakota. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews – Slay Rivinius, Sieara (Chance) Hondl, Jason (Emily) Schott, and Jessica (Mike) Bitz; and several other very dear relatives and in-laws.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

The family would like to offer a very special thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo and to the wonderful caregivers from Hospice of the Red River Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to either of these organizations.

Guestbook

  1. Carma, Landon and family,
So very sorry for your loss. Prayers and thoughts going out to all of you during this difficult time.
    Cathy & Kevin Brown

  2. Doug wasn’t just a coworker, he was family. I worked with Doug for 4 1/2 years as an IT Duo. I looked up to him and he was constantly giving me life advice that I still use today. He is the reason I work in the way I do today. He was an inspiration to all and a guide on how to be a good human being. This was unexpected and not fair to say the least. My prayers go out to Doug’s family.

  3. Carma,
Who knew that sitting next to someone at Basketball could turn into such a great friendship. You and Doug have been such a part of the fun of life in the last few years. Doug was a kind sole and I am so sorry the family had to lose him far too early. Our friendship will continue!
Prayers and love to you and the entire family.

  4. Carma, My sympathies to you and the family. We surely lost a great one. I learned so much from Doug. Diligence, Patience, Dedication, all with humility. He never got around to helping me with my golf game but that will wait until we meet again.
