Duane passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Bethany on 42nd, in Fargo, at the age of 85.

Duane was born on January 27, 1937, in Dickinson, ND, the son Joseph and Mary (Sauvageau) Booke. He grew up in Dickinson and received his education, graduating from Dickinson High School. During his high school years, he worked at a gas station, a grocery store, area farms, and for the family-owned bar.

Following his graduation, Duane proudly served his county in the United States Navy from June 6, 1955, until his discharge on May 28, 1959. He was stationed on the USS Robert K. Huntington DD781 where he worked as a Mechanics Mate II. After his discharge, Duane returned to North Dakota and attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND for refrigeration and air conditioning. He worked for Wahpeton Electric and was a Culligan Man.

While working in Wahpeton, he met his future wife, Rose at a local party where he was handing out the beer cups. On September 17, 1960, he was united in marriage to Rose Taylor at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fairmount, ND. The couple moved to Minot, ND, where he worked for the Air Force Base. They later moved to Fargo where Duane worked as GSA Forman – working many years as head of maintenance for all of the Federal Buildings in North Dakota.

After retirement, they traveled to Yuma, Arizona, where they were snow-birds for 24 years – spending the Summer months at Leaf Lake. In Arizona, he drove bus for Tour West America and saw many interesting places. They cherished the memories made at the lake as well as the special friends made – enjoying the ice cream treats made by Mark Rye along with the legendary “Pot” party campfires.

During the school year, Duane drove for Valley Bus for many years as well as the Legion Base Ball Team, and Charter Busses. He loved traveling with his wife Rose, including trips to Niagra Falls, Vegas and Laughlin Nevada trips, and also into Mexico.

Duane was a kind, giving man and will be remembered for his generosity and his willingness to help everyone. He was very proud of his grandchildren and loved to spend all the time he could with them – they meant the world to him.

Duane is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rose of West Fargo; his daughter, Margie Booke of Moorhead, MN; his very special grandchildren – Tasha Booke and Taylor Booke; and great-grand puppy, Shadow John. Also surviving is his sister, Agnes Enright of Arizona.

Duane was preceded in death by his daughter, Dianna Booke in 2014; his parents, Joseph and Mary; and his six other siblings – Bob, Glen, Bud, Joyce, Mildred, and Lorraine.

  1. Duane was one of the BEST friends you could wish for, his kindness, helpful ways and was there to help everyone! He was a GREAT neighbor at the lake and turned out to be WONDERFUL friend…. He made the BEST bonfires; he used copper & other metals to make a variety of colors for the fire…. He was the “MR. WIZARD OF LEAF LAKE CAMPROUNDS” He could do anything and everything! You’re going to be missed GREATLY RIP My friend Duane

  2. So sorry to say good bye to Duane. For many years he was a wonderful member of our team here at Valley Bus. Always a smile on his face, always a quick joke or fun comment. We were sorry when he left to go to Arizona in the fall and so happy to see him return with that genial smile on his face, in the spring. He truly was a great person to know and work with!

  3. Duane was the most sincere, genuine person that I have ever met. His kind and friendly smile was like sunshine. Rest In Peace Duane. With Love from Debra Sue.

  4. I met Duayne in yuma arizona while volunteering my first year for bingo at Capri rv Park. For many years until the pandemic I very much looked forward to seeing rose and Duayne for the winter months every Friday for Bingo. They were the luckiest couple, winning nearly every Friday. Duayne always had a kind word and a smile and I will miss him dearly. All my love to the family at this time.

  5. Jim Simpson
A couple years back I had to have a stress test, and because of my age it was a nuclear test. Not thinking the next day some friends and I went to Algodone Mexico we left our car on the American side and walked in. When we were ready to leave there was a very long line at Customs and we were in line when a van came by it was Dwayne, Rose, and Margie! Dwayne saw me and stopped and asked if we wanted a ride? Yea and we climbed in. Getting to the border Border Patrolman looked at us and ask who was carrying the the radioactive material? I tried to explain to him I had a stress test the day prior, He directed Dwayne to pull off to the side and all of us get out of the car and wait between the building’s after about 40 minutes they finally let us go Dwayne was not at all angry but he never forgot and loved to terse me about it

  6. We cherish the time and memories we made with Duane in Yuma. He drove us all around and showed us the area. Rose and Duane were my momma’s best friends!!! They are family and we love them. We will miss you Duane!!!

  7. Uncle Duane was the youngest of Dads brothers. He always was a kind and gentle man he had great patience for his sometime rambunctious nieces and nephews and lots of laughs when we all got together. My family’s condolences to Aunt Rose and family.

all men we looked up to and aspired to be like. Kind, generous, hard working and honest.
All will be missed. Rest in Peace Uncle Duane. Say hello to Dad, Uncle Bud, Uncle Glen and
