Duane Charles Gellner, a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend, passed away on March 12, 2024, at the age of 75 surrounded by his family.

Duane was born on September 24, 1948 in Langdon, ND to Frank and Ruby (Coyle) Gellner. He graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in Langdon. After serving proudly in the United States Army, Duane married Lola Metzger at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on December 27, 1969.

Throughout their life together, Duane and Lola raised three loving children – Rob, Marney and Ryan. Their life took them to different places, but they eventually settled in Minot, North Dakota before retiring to Fargo. They enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona for over 16 years.

Duane enjoyed fishing, hunting, softball, and keeping busy in the garage. Yet, the most precious moments for him were those spent enjoying his grandchildren’s sporting events and cherishing family gatherings.

Duane is survived by his wife, Lola Gellner; children, Rob (Nikki) Gellner, Marney (Matt) Mathiasen, Ryan (Lisa) Gellner; grandchildren, Gage (Madi) Gellner, Gracie Gellner, Grady Mathiasen, Finley Mathiasen, Cruz Gellner, Jager Gellner; great-granddaughter, Aftyn Gellner; and siblings, Judy (Lorne) Tetrault, and Mary Ellen (Ken) Heck.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Jim, Kenny, Mike and Eunice.

  12. Dear Lola and family,

We are so sorry that Dewey has passed. He was such a kind and cheerful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We enjoyed floating in the pool, watching the yellow golf cart (Yellowbird) being tuned up, Thursday morning resort meetings, observing his home maintenance projects, and his infectious laugh. He will be sadly missed, however, no more pain as he lives in the light of Christ. God’s blessings to all as you grieve.

  13. Lola, Rob, Marney & Ryan was so saddened when we read about Dewey’s passing in the Minot Daily. Enjoyed working with him at Sweetheart Bakery but mostly the softball memories we made with you all and the other softball families. Blessing in the upcoming days as you celebrate his life.
