Such a huge devasting loss occurred on Saturday December 28th , 2024, when heaven gained a heroic, wonderful angel. Duane Leroy Severson, 62, an amazing Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Brother-in-law, Uncle, and loyal friend, passed away from complications of numerous strokes at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND. Duane was surrounded by the love of his family and clergy, while God called him home.
Duane was born in Fergus Falls, MN, a son of Earl (Bud) and Shirley (Washek) Severson on June 2, 1962. He grew up and graduated in Fergus Falls in 1980, then following his graduation, he worked at Metz Bakery and then at the Coca-Cola plant there. For a short time, he traveled to and worked in Wyoming. After returning to Minnesota, he moved to Pelican Rapids to begin work at was known as West Central Turkeys/Jennie-O as a Line Lead until the time of his passing.
While working on the Packaging (8600) line at West Central Turkeys, Duane met his beautiful wife Julie, and their enduring love affair began. They eventually married on September 28th, 1991, then shortly after their marriage they gave birth to an amazing son Jordan and made their home in Pelican Rapids.
Duane loved his family dearly. He loved watching football and rooting for his favorite team the Vikings (even during the losses), he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time doing some old family traditions like mixing dumplings, and of course, spending time relaxing and laughing with friends. Duane was the most amazing person with a humongous heart of gold, with his quick wit, and sense of humor made him cherished by all who had the pleasure to know him and call him friend.
He is survived by his beautiful Wife Julie Severson of 33 years, wonderful Son Jordan Severson, his Father Earl (Bud) Severson, sisters Barb (Daryl) Ecker, and Debbie Cossette. Sister-in-law’s Jennifer (Todd) Fiedler, and Kristie Lewis. Nieces and Nephews, Kyle (Suzie) Ecker, D.J. (Sami) Ecker, Stephanie Bond, Chad Cossette, Faith and Jackson Fiedler. Great Nieces and Nephews, Mackenzie, Dakota, Ashton, Brody, Greyson Ecker, and Aiden Bond. Great-Great Niece Willow Ecker.
He is preceded in death by his Mother Shirley (Washek) Severson, Mother and Father-in-law Jack and Faith Lewis, Grandparents Leo and Dorthy Washek, Ludvig Severson and Mildred Severson, and Brother-in-law Ray Cossette.
His arrangements are with Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, there is a visitation prior to the service on Saturday January 11th, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.- 1:00 p.m., and Funeral Mass will follow at St. Leonard’s Church in Pelican Rapids.

I am a true believer in a symbol correlating to the death/spirit of a loved one and mine is the eagle. It is so majestic and represents freedom. The eagle has been presen for my mom and my spouse and now Duane. Sunday before going to work I stopped at my quiet place, the Kidder dam. 2 eagles came flying through, one landed on the ice and one in the tree, I know in my heart that Duane found mom and they are both watching over us.
Hey brother, I just want you to know how much I loved you and will miss you forever.
Dumplings will never be the same without your help mixing.
Till we meet again
Your sister Deb
