Dwight Burchill
August 21, 1963 ~ June 9, 2026
Born in:
Mayville, North Dakota
Resided in:
Hunter, North Dakota
Dwight’s Funeral Service will be livestreamed below starting at 3:45 PM Monday.
Dwight Everett Burchill passed peacefully and unexpectedly in his sleep on June 9th, 2026, at the age of 62.
Dwight was born on August 21, 1963, in Mayville, ND, to Laurence and Marleen (Gorder) Burchill. He grew up on the farm, west of Hunter, ND.
Dwight graduated from the Hunter-Arthur School District in 1981, and afterwards attended Diesel Mech School at NDSCS, Wahpeton, ND. He was known for his ability to fix anything, and he did that for anyone who asked.
Dwight helped build the Sunshine Skyway Bridge near St. Petersburg, FL. He was proud of his seven seasons custom combining across the Great Plains with P&M Farms out of Mazenod, SK. His love for the land and cattle shaped his career, where he worked on the family farm, for several other local farms, and for Harvest Partners the last six years. Like any real cowboy, when he wasn’t working, he was helping his boys with cattle and farming; he was a top hand at Burchill Cattle Co.
Dwight married Juanita Bergh on September 11th, 1992, in Fargo, North Dakota. His greatest joy was their three sons, Riley, Taylor, and Sawyer, followed by their five grandchildren who he loved beyond measure: Coy and Elsie of Arthur, ND and Rosie, Kipp and Belle of Hunter, ND. Grandpa Dwight never missed an opportunity to spoil his grandkids with frosted animal cookies, or a ride in the pickup or tractor.
Dwight loved people; he knew no stranger and loved talking to everyone he saw – all the while with a big coffee mug in hand. He loved to make people laugh, was a friend to all, and never failed to make those who knew him feel special.
His faith was in God and Jesus, and would talk about it with anyone who asked. He often said we aren’t preparing for this life, but for the next. Dwight had true joy, peace, and love which came from above.
Dwight is survived by his three sons, Riley (Alexis) Burchill of Arthur, ND, Taylor Burchill of Hunter, ND, and Sawyer (Delaney) Burchill of Hunter, ND; Juanita Burchill of Fargo, ND; mother Marleen (Dale) Houkom of Hope, ND; brothers, Hank (Beatta) of Hunter, ND, Mike (Pam) Burchill of Minnetonka, MN, and Dan (Donita) Burchill of Detroit Lakes, MN; his grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dwight is preceded in death by his father, Laurence Burchill.
Dwight’s memory will continue in the lives of all who loved him. He will be missed by all who held him dear to their hearts. He was a true cowboy, outdoorsman, and friend.

Extending my condolences to the family in the loss of a dear brother..When someone you love becomes a memory, then that memory becomes a treasure. I love that hymn “there is no place where earth’s sorrow is more felt.than up in heaven”. May you draw near.to.the LORD and receive true comfort.
To the families of Dwight, so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Dwight was a character to all. Prayers for everyone involved with his life. Prayers for healing and strength and comfort. Riley, Taylor and Swayer I’m so sorry for the loss of a father and a grandpa to your kids. Rest in peace Dwight.
We had a lot of fun times. We also had a lot of the same growing pains. When we were together, we always had each other’s back. Born the same year. Only a month apart. Now the harvest season for us has begun. May we always praise God for his priceless grace that saves us! Dwight was a good friend!
Burchill Family, The world lost another good one. Dwight was always happy and full of it. He was a good friend and he will be missed very much. R.I.P my friend until we meet again.
Burchill family, I am so very sorry to hear of Dwights passing. I just talked to him last week when he stopped by the clinic. I will miss his stories and jokes. He always had a smile on his face. My thoughts and prayers.
If ever there was a person whose eyes were the windows to their soul it was Dwight. Growing up what he lacked in hearing he compensated for by seeing. He had a good understanding of what makes people “tick”—and could use it for them or against them😩😂
He knew what made machines tick, too, and I’m sure the loss of his mechanical abilities will be deeply felt.
Dwight and his brothers were like my son’s when they were small and more like brothers than anything when they were grown.
A cord is broken, but I will treasure the memories. Deepest condolences to those who bear the greatest sorrow.
Dave

You were such a light in the world. Your teasing manner and mischievous grin is what I think I will miss the most. I always enjoyed your impromptu visits at the the vet clinic. I have thoroughly enjoyed our friendship over these past 23 years. You were taken from this earth yoo soon, but God always welcomes the “best ones” home early. God Bless you and your family during this very sad time.

Dwight…
It’s surreal to think that you’re gone. 😢 To realize that we’ll never get to see you drive your truck out of our shared driveway again. Last night, we had your mom & Dale over for supper. I almost said to Hank, “we should call Dwight & see if he wants to come over for supper too.” Then I remembered you are gone, so I didn’t. 😔 Thanks for always being game to try my homemade bread & treats. I’m going to miss the way you answered my phone calls with a hesitant “Yessss?” Or sometimes you would answer & say “I didn’t do it!”. 😊 Hank & I are both going to miss hearing you talk about your grandkids and how cute & funny they are and how much they love their grandpa. 😊 It was always a comfort to know you were across the driveway when Hank was working night shifts. There will be many more things we’ll miss about you, but these are just a few that come to mind right now. Your sister-in-law, Beatta
Sending our deepest sympathies to Dwight’s entire family. Being “neighbors” growing up I have many memories of Dwight and his mischievous personality from our long bus rides! No matter when I would see him he would always love to visit and reminisce. He will be missed by many. Keeping you all in our prayers.
Burchill Family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Dwight was a man who was impossible to forget once you met him. Always greeting you with that smile and a great big hug. He was a great guy with a great sense of humor and will be missed greatly. Not having him come in to the vet clinic to visit will surely leave a void in all of our hearts. Thinking of you all during this time. We’ll miss you Dwight!
I’m adding my heartfelt sympathy with many others of Dwight’s remaining family
Dwight’s sudden passing is a shock to me. My hope is that each of you who remain will find comfort, strength and grace to move on with your lives.
Thinking of all of Dwight’s family and friends; I appreciated my time in the home when the boys were still children – several years ago… may the memory of his ready smile bring warmth…
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dwights family. He will be missed by all.
Riley & Family,
My thoughts have been with you all over the last few days, I’m deeply sorry for the passing of your dad. Please know I been praying for peace and comfort as you all navigate through this extremely difficult time.

We were so shocked and saddened by the news of Dwight’s passing. He truly lit up a room and made everyone feel like the most interesting person there. I remember this about him as a little kid whenever we were at Elmer and Lena’s place. Our kids feel the same way, and they only saw him 1-2 times a year. Our deepest sympathies to all! Love, The Severuds
Sincere condolences for your loss. While I didn’t see Dwight often, I remember him always with a smile and teasing.
Thinking of your family in this time of deep loss! We are very sorry and send prayers of comfort.
With deepest sympathy,
Jeff and Lynnette Krack
Burchill family,
Shocked and very sorry to hear of Dwight’s passing. Thinking of you today and the days to come. I spent the summer of ‘88 and ‘89 on the combine crew with Dwight. There was never a dull moment with Dwight around, always in a good mood and a smile on his face and never knew what he was up to. I look back at him as the guy who taught me how to drive a truck and I have been ever since. He will be missed! One of a kind.
Our condolences to the family. Years have passed but know that the positive, steady influence and memories of Dwight still remain for those of us left in his P & M family. He was a good man gone too soon.
Our thoughts and prayers have been with you all. We’re deeply sorry for the passing of your father.
We’ve been praying for peace and comfort as you all navigate through this extremely difficult time.
Thinking of you all.

Thinking of you all with deepest heartfelt sympathy. Thankful for all that comforts you but know it is a huge loss to your family. ♥️
I recently heard of Dwight’s passing on our family group texts regarding my sister Arlene’s rapidly declining health, in which she passed on Sunday, 6/14. I cannot imagine two people more different and yet both have passed within a week… Arlene also had a great love of God. I think of Dwight in our young college days, how time has flown by.
Condolences to the whole Burchill family.
