Dwight Burchill
August 21, 1963 ~ June 9, 2026
Born in:
Mayville, North Dakota
Resided in:
Hunter, North Dakota
Dwight Everett Burchill passed peacefully and unexpectedly in his sleep on June 9th, 2026, at the age of 62.
Dwight was born on August 21, 1963, in Mayville, ND, to Laurence and Marleen (Gorder) Burchill. He grew up on the farm, west of Hunter, ND.
Dwight graduated from the Hunter-Arthur School District in 1981, and afterwards attended Diesel Mech School at NDSCS, Wahpeton, ND. He was known for his ability to fix anything, and he did that for anyone who asked.
Dwight helped build the Sunshine Skyway Bridge near St. Petersburg, FL. He was proud of his seven seasons custom combining across the Great Plains with P&M Farms out of Mazenod, SK. His love for the land and cattle shaped his career, where he worked on the family farm, for several other local farms, and for Harvest Partners the last six years. Like any real cowboy, when he wasn’t working, he was helping his boys with cattle and farming; he was a top hand at Burchill Cattle Co.
Dwight married Juanita Bergh on September 11th, 1992, in Fargo, North Dakota. His greatest joy was their three sons, Riley, Taylor, and Sawyer, followed by their five grandchildren who he loved beyond measure: Coy and Elsie of Arthur, ND and Rosie, Kipp and Belle of Hunter, ND. Grandpa Dwight never missed an opportunity to spoil his grandkids with frosted animal cookies, or a ride in the pickup or tractor.
Dwight loved people; he knew no stranger and loved talking to everyone he saw – all the while with a big coffee mug in hand. He loved to make people laugh, was a friend to all, and never failed to make those who knew him feel special.
His faith was in God and Jesus, and would talk about it with anyone who asked. He often said we aren’t preparing for this life, but for the next. Dwight had true joy, peace, and love which came from above.
Dwight is survived by his three sons, Riley (Alexis) Burchill of Arthur, ND, Taylor Burchill of Hunter, ND, and Sawyer (Delaney) Burchill of Hunter, ND; Juanita Burchill of Fargo, ND; mother Marleen (Dale) Houkom of Hope, ND; brothers, Hank (Beatta) of Hunter, ND, Mike (Pam) Burchill of Minnetonka, MN, and Dan (Donita) Burchill of Detroit Lakes, MN; his grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dwight is preceded in death by his father, Laurence Burchill.
Dwight’s memory will continue in the lives of all who loved him. He will be missed by all who held him dear to their hearts. He was a true cowboy, outdoorsman, and friend.

To the families of Dwight, so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Dwight was a character to all. Prayers for everyone involved with his life. Prayers for healing and strength and comfort. Riley, Taylor and Swayer I’m so sorry for the loss of a father and a grandpa to your kids. Rest in peace Dwight.
We had a lot of fun times. We also had a lot of the same growing pains. When we were together, we always had each other’s back. Born the same year. Only a month apart. Now the harvest season for us has begun. May we always praise God for his priceless grace that saves us! Dwight was a good friend!
Burchill Family, The world lost another good one. Dwight was always happy and full of it. He was a good friend and he will be missed very much. R.I.P my friend until we meet again.
Burchill family, I am so very sorry to hear of Dwights passing. I just talked to him last week when he stopped by the clinic. I will miss his stories and jokes. He always had a smile on his face. My thoughts and prayers.
If ever there was a person whose eyes were the windows to their soul it was Dwight. Growing up what he lacked in hearing he compensated for by seeing. He had a good understanding of what makes people “tick”—and could use it for them or against them😩😂
He knew what made machines tick, too, and I’m sure the loss of his mechanical abilities will be deeply felt.
Dwight and his brothers were like my son’s when they were small and more like brothers than anything when they were grown.
A cord is broken, but I will treasure the memories. Deepest condolences to those who bear the greatest sorrow.
Dave

You were such a light in the world. Your teasing manner and mischievous grin is what I think I will miss the most. I always enjoyed your impromptu visits at the the vet clinic. I have thoroughly enjoyed our friendship over these past 23 years. You were taken from this earth yoo soon, but God always welcomes the “best ones” home early. God Bless you and your family during this very sad time.
