Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Dwight Ira Johnson passed away April 3, 2024, at the age of 80 years old.

Dwight was born November 27, 1943, to Arnie and Margaret Johnson in Thief River Falls, MN. He grew up in Middle River, MN, where he helped his grandparents on the Peterson Farm.

At the age of 13, Dwight moved to Fargo with his parents and around the age of 16, Dwight worked alongside his father as a roofer. Some time later, he took a job at Sherman Plumbing and Heating. While on a job at Sherman in Gilby, ND, he met his future wife, Terri. Dwight and Terri married on July 14, 1969, in Sisseton, SD by a Justice of the Peace, and made their home in Fargo, ND.

Some time in 1972-1973, Dwight started working for the City of Fargo’s Sanitation Department. He loved his job and when he retired after 28 years the department gave him a part time job working in the Hazardous Waste Department until he was fully retired.

Dwight loved to hunt deer every year, and always brought one home with him. He also loved collecting old toys (mostly tractors and cars). He attended auctions frequently to keep his collection growing.

Dwight and Terri attended many car shows over the years. They both have a 1966 Ford Fairlanes that won several trophies. Dwight also enjoyed attending the Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag, ND and the airshows that would come to Fargo. When he was home, he loved to tinker in his garage, and work on his car.

His family will miss him dearly.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Arnie and Margaret; son, Shawn Kirby; and other family members.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Terri Johnson; daughter, Shannyn ( Ryan) Maack; and sister, Janet (Pat) Foerster.
