Earlann Archer

Earlann Wynn Archer (Lanne) passed away September 23, 2026 surrounded by family after a short illness. She was born on February 29, 1948, at St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, Minnesota, the first child of Earl and Bette Chase.

She grew up in Washburn, North Dakota, alongside her siblings Candice, Michael, and Cole. Her family was deeply rooted in the communities of central North Dakota, owning and operating drug stores in Washburn, Hazen, Underwood, and Garrison. Those early years shaped much of who Lanne became: hardworking, generous, resourceful, and always ready to help someone else.

Lanne graduated from Washburn High School in 1966 and went on to attend North Dakota State University, graduating in 1970. She was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta making life long friends and relationships. Shortly afterward, she began what would become a 40-year career as a medical technologist at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo. She took great pride in her work and in the many friendships and relationships she built over those years.

Lanne raised her family in Fargo, North Dakota. More than anything, being a mother meant everything to her. Her children, Allison and Brady, were always at the center of her life. She gave generously of her time, her energy, and herself, and she was happiest when she was doing something for the people she loved. Lanne had a way of making people feel welcome and cared for, and she rarely thought first of herself. She spent her life giving to others, especially her family.

She was creative in nearly everything she did. She loved plants, gardening, decorating, crafts, refinishing and making a home feel warm and beautiful. There was always something she was tending, arranging, painting, planting, or improving. She found joy in creating comfortable spaces and in making ordinary things special.

Music was another constant in her life. She loved classic singer-songwriters such as Kris Kristofferson, Jim Croce, and Willie Nelson. Some of the happiest family memories were made on long road trips to visit grandparents, singing along to 1990s country music all the way.

Lanne also loved being near the water. As a younger woman, many special memories were made at her parents’ family cabin on Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota. In more recent years, she found that same sense of peace at Walker Lake in Minnesota, where she spent time during the last couple of summers with her daughter Allison.

At her heart, Lanne was generous, creative, caring, and welcoming. She was a helper by nature. She gave much more easily than she received and devoted her life to taking care of the people around her. She did not spend much time or money on herself, because her greatest satisfaction came from seeing the people she loved happy, comfortable, and cared for.

Lanne was preceded in death by infant daughter Ashley Archer, Bruce Archer; her parents, Earl and Bette Chase; and other loved ones who went before her.

She is survived by her daughter, Allison; her son, Brady (Christina); her siblings, Candice, Michael, and Cole (Vivaldo); along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her deeply.

Earlann’s passing came suddenly, leaving her family shocked and heartbroken. They will remember her not only for all that she did, but for the way she loved: generously, quietly, creatively, and without asking for anything in return.
