Ed’s service will be livestreamed and viewable below starting at 10: a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026:
Edwin R Sklebar, 89, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026 at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo.
Ed was born on November 25, 1936 to Vera Sklebar and Edwin Walsh in Chicago, IL. Ed attended schools in Chicago, IL., Baltimore, Md., and Bemidji, MN and graduated high school from Hancock, Minnesota High School. Ed enlisted in the US Navy in May of 1955, and served the next four years aboard the USS Hazelwood (DD531), stationed out of Newport, Rhode Island.
After moving to Fargo, Ed worked for the US Postal Service for 10 years. He then owned and operated EDSR Insulating, Inc. for 33 years. Ed and Mavis moved to West Fargo and he decided to take on a new job driving a bus for the West Fargo School District before retiring in 2015.
Ed was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. He enjoyed many years at the family’s summer residence on Little Cormorant Lake with his wife, family and friends. Ed also enjoyed walleye fishing in Canada, salmon fishing in Lake Michigan, and deep sea fishing on the many winter vacations he and Mavis took to warm exotic places.
Ed will be remembered for his warm smile and kind spirit. He was friendly to everyone he met and had a remarkable ability to remember people’s names, making others feel truly seen and valued. Ed had a generous heart and was always willing to help those in need. He was deeply devoted to his wife, Mavis, and was the very best grandpa, loved dearly by his family and by so many that knew him.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Mavis, parents, and sister Phyllis. Ed is survived by his brother Tom, daughter: Sandy (Brad), sons: Dave (Susan), Ron (Kim), and Steve. Grandchildren: Andrea (Aaron), Zachary, Abby (Tyler) and Jacob. Great Grandchildren: Bridger and Everly.
