Elaine Edna Mitchell, passed away on November 26, 2023, at the age of 85 at Sanford Hospice House, Fargo.
She was born on June 9, 1938, in Fairmount, North Dakota. Elaine’s education was rooted in the Fairmount community. She attended and graduated from Fairmount High School. From her early days at Holiday Inn, Dennys, Iron Skillet, and Hardees to her later years at Merit Care and Elim Home, Elaine left an indelible mark on her colleagues and the people she served. Her tireless efforts and commitment garnered her the respect and admiration of all who had the pleasure of working with her. Elaine retired on May 23, 2003.
Outside of work, Elaine had a passion for gardening and exploring new destinations. She cherished moments spent in her garden, nurturing plants and watching them bloom, finding solace and peace in nature’s embrace. Elaine also had a creative side and enjoyed expressing herself through ceramics. The Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion held a special place in her heart, as she cherished her time as an active member of the community.
Elaine’s love for quilting and bowling brought her joy and connected her with friends who shared her interests. These activities not only provided entertainment but also served as platforms for creating lasting memories and nurturing lifelong friendships.
Elaine will be deeply missed by her children, Mark (Carol) Mitchell and Kathleen (Bruce) Kautzman. She was a cherished sister to Darrel Muehler, Alice Ellsworth, Betty Bohn, Shirley (Greg) Wegscheid, Darline Carlson, Linda (Roger) Steffens, and Patty (Dave) Zietlow. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Curtis, and two children, Lori Ann and Katherine Joan. In addition, she was preceded in death by her siblings Elsie, Phyllis, Helen, Doris, Herman Jr., and Sharon.
Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo, with visitation starting at 9:00 A.M.
Burial: St. Benedict’s Cemetery, Wild Rice, ND.
