Elizabeth Spaeth
March 1, 1926 ~ March 17, 2012
On March 17, 2012, Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Spaeth was called home to her heavenly Father. Betty was born on March 1, 1926 in Valley City, ND to George R. Wilson and Marie Kirtland.
She spent her early years in Aylmer and Leal, ND before moving to MN where she graduated in 1944 from Mahnomen High School.
Betty married Jerome H. Spaeth on August 12, 1949 in Mahnomen and soon after moved to ND where she raised her family. She and her husband eventually settled in Fargo where she continued to live until her death.
She was an active member of her parish, served on the Altar Society and was involved in various volunteer activities including Meals on Wheels and working as a hairdresser at a long term care facility.
Betty was an avid bridge player, enjoyed her exercise class, playing cards, and socializing with family and friends. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Betty will remember her for her kindness, generosity, patience and keen sense of humor. Most of all, she will be remembered by her family as a loving wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome; and children: Nick (Cindy) Spaeth of Kansas City, MO, Kitty (Tom) Teigen of Casselton, ND, Becky (Mike) Shaheen of McKinney, TX, Jan Spaeth of Fargo, ND, Bonnie (Ken) Bremer of Crystal Lake, IL, Laurie (Ted) Schepper of Redmond, WA, Paul (Kelly) Spaeth of Half Moon Bay, CA, Sid Spaeth of Fargo, ND, Nancy (Robin) Gentry of Spanish Fort, AL, and Pat (Laurel) Spaeth of Redmond, WA; 27 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Betty Spaeth (Ms. Spaeth to me) was one of the most pleasant, good-natured human beings I’ve ever met. She had a smile on her face even when it wasn’t warranted (Pat). She will be missed dearly.

Dear Jerome Spaeth and Family,
I was very sorry to read of Betty’s death. I know that the loss of a wife and parent is a sad occasion, no matter when the end comes for that person. I send my sincere condolences.
Although the loss of Betty is great, there are some wonderful consolations. She lived a good and long life. She was a wonderful wife and mother who was justly proud of her ten chlidren and many grandchildren.
I know many of you in the Jerome and Betty Spaeth family. I send good wishes and greetings. You will have great memories of a wonderful person in Betty Spaeth.

To All Of Betty’s family: What a loss to me personally to hear of your Mom’s death. I was the one who took her to our exercise class the first day and so have seen her three times a week for over 19 years She loved all of you so much and loved life so much. We had a wonderful visit the last time I saw her just a little over a week ago. Eccleslastes III says “There is a Time, etc.” and now Betty has been called home and we must be happy in the knowledge of that she is at peace and home in a different place.
Helena MTDear Uncle and Cousins,
I was so sad to hear that Aunt Betty passed, but I have lots of good memories to soothe the sadness…like really heavy bread fresh out of the oven. She was always so positive. My love and sympathy to all of you.

Kitty, I am so sorry to hear of your loss, my condolences to you and your family.
Tis hard to break the tender cord
when love has bound the heart.
Tis hard to speak the words,
we must forever part.
Dearest loved one, we must lay thee
in the peaceful grave’s embrace.
But thy memory will be cherished,
till we again see thy heavenly face.
