Ella Sky Sweeney, Age 20, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 7th at her home in Fargo, ND.
Ella was born to parents Patrick Sweeney and Amy (Younggren) Sweeney on April 29, 2002 in Fargo, ND. She grew up in Fargo and at the family lake home on Bad Medicine Lake in MN. Ella was attending the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND, where she would have been a Junior this Fall.
Travel with her family was an integral part of Ella’s life as they spent time in Hawaii, California, Colorado and New York with extended family and friends.
Ella accepted every person for who they are and could see the good in anyone. She brought her friends together often and made everyone feel included.
Ella loved fashion and was a keen collector of designer pieces, known for her unique and unapologetic style and the fun-loving attitude she shared with everyone who knew her. She was curious and adventurous, attending concerts, sporting events and other activities as often as possible.
Her example taught us all that our time here on earth is short and to live out each day with purpose. She leaves behind a legacy of authenticity, the value of acceptance, and the importance of living life to the fullest.
She is survived by her father, Patrick H. Sweeney, mother Amy Lynn Sweeney, brother William Sweeney, Grandmother, Beverly Newberry and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins on both sides of her family and lifelong friends, who will miss her dearly.
Ella was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Jeane Sweeney,
and John Younggren.

Ella and I shared a conversation just a few months ago about life and school. She expressed to me that her dream was to be in the fashion industry, to work as a stylist or create her own clothing line. I told her she would be absolutely amazing and very successful. She was extremely passionate and creative anyone who knew her could say that. She will be incredibly missed.

My heart goes out to you at this time of loss. My days of going to school at Shanley with her and occasionally seeing her on the und campus or around grand forks were times I will cherish. She was always willing to talk with anyone and be a helping hand when needed. I know that the conversations I had with her in the library and in math were ones to have genuine laughter and smiles! She will be missed dearly and I know that blue sky above will alway be a sign she is looking down at us to remind us that she is okay and we can get through it.

I had the pleasure of sharing Ella’s company during her 4th grade year at Nativity. When I heard the news of her passing, I immediately pictured the little girl with dark, curly hair and big, beautiful eyes that were always so wide open to the world. I distinctly remember, too, how close your family was and the priority you put on Ella’s well-being. How lucky Ella was to have such deeply devoted parents who lavished her with attention and love! I am so sorry for your loss, I cannot imagine how all of your are feeling and my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. God gave me the gift of being friends with Ella all throughout elementary school and middle school. Ella and I shared many experiences such as volleyball tournaments and many sleepovers and halloween celebrations. I also had algebra with Ella my freshmen year of highschool, and Ella was always the one making jokes and making me laugh. She had the most contagious laugh and the most beautiful smile. She always knew how to light up the room and was always willing to make anyone smile. I am so grateful to have known her and to have been able to make memories with her. I hope your family is able to find comfort in knowing that her soul is at peace with the Lord, and that one day everyone will see her again in harmony with each other. I hope you all keep your faith and rely on God when things seem to feel impossible in the future. You guys are a great family, and I am so lucky to have grown up alongside all of you through the Shanley family, and I am giving my upmost love and support during this hard time.
