Elmer Schreiner, 76, of Fargo, ND and Springhill, LA, died on Thursday, April 8, 2010, in hospice care at Grace Home in Shreveport, LA.Elmer was born near Strasburg, ND to John and Ottilia (Hoffart) Schreiner. He grew up on a farm near Cogswell, ND and graduated from Cogswell High School in 1952. He joined the Air Force in July of 1952. On July 7, 1956 he married Nettie Mae Johnson in Shreveport, LA. In the Air Force Elmer was first trained as a mechanic on B-47 aircraft and later on B-52 aircraft. In the latter half of his military service he served as a maintenance supervisor for B-52 aircraft. He retired after 20 years of active duty as a Senior Master Sargent in 1972 and the family moved to Fargo, ND.In civilian life Elmer first worked for Gunkelman & Sons until shortly after the business was purchased by General Nutrition Mills. Later he became a founding partner in Sun Valley Products, a custom roaster of confectionery sunflower seeds and soybeans. After a few years he became a partner in P & H Supply, a plumbing and heating wholesaler. Elmer retired in 1993.Elmer attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springhill. He was a life member of the Harwood, ND, American Legion.In 1995 Elmer and Nettie purchased a home in Springhill, where Nettie's extended family lives, and started spending the Winters there, returning each Spring to Fargo. Elmer enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and kept busy repairing just about anything mechanical and helping friends and family with small home remodeling projects.He is survived by his wife Nettie; son Wesley; daughters Nancy (David) Monson and Julie Watkins; grandchildren Leanna Monson, Jenna Watkins and Kira Watkins; sister Katie Bohnenkamp; brothers John Jr., Alfred, Alphonse, Leo (Phyllis), Anton (Pam), Charles (Pam), James; and many nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters Theresa Even and Annie Truesdell; and brothers Benedict and Eugene.
