February 26, 1986 ~ June 6, 2024

Born in: Breckenridge, Minnesota
Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

Eric James Meyer, 38, passed away at home on June 6 while receiving hospice care.

He was born in Breckenridge, MN, to Merlin and Lori (Schlener) Meyer.

Eric graduated from Wahpeton High School in 2004, and North Dakota State College of Science in 2006. He attended North Dakota State University and later transferred to Minnesota State Community and Technical College, graduating in 2013 with degree in Biotechnology.

Eric married his wife Megan in 2012. They welcomed their children Amelia and Jack in the years following.

Eric worked as a Lab Manager at Aldevron, where he was employed for 10 years. Eric enjoyed working in the field of biotechnology, but his greatest joy and most cherished role was being a daddy to his two young children.

In his short time here, Eric mastered the art of retaining his inner child. He balanced the roles of parent, partner, and lovable nerd effortlessly. His hobbies included building Legos with his children, enjoying many family pets with Megan throughout the years, playing MMORPGs, and gathering with friends to play Dungeons and Dragons.

Eric excelled in his ability to find happiness in a life that many would have viewed as hard or sad. In the end brain cancer took his body, but it never once stole his joyful spirit.

Preceded in death by grandparents Al and Nellie (Andel) Meyer, Jack and Deloris (Hackey) Schlener; aunt Diana (Schlener) Speidel; uncles Warren Meyer, Delwood Meyer, Brian Schlener

Eric is survived by his wife Megan and their two children Amelia and Jack; parents Merlin and Lori Meyer of Wahpeton, ND; brother Andy (Desiree) Meyer, Morrison, CO; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, and his niece and nephew.

A memorial service will be announced in the coming weeks.

Guestbook

  1. My sympathy to the whole Meyer family……heaven just got brighter with his presence there……

  2. Dear Lori and Merlin and Megan and all of your family – it is never easy to say that final goodbye, especially with someone so young. “2 Timothy 4:7 – I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. There is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, shall give me at that day” Yes, Eric fought for such a long time, but rest knowing he will see you up in Heaven – and that he is with Diana up there too. Sending so much love and hugs and lots of prayers

  3. Remembering Eric and all the amazing things he did for Aldevron. He was truly passionate about being a scientist and a leader. He will be missed greatly, but never forgotten.

  4. Losing a child in life is not right or fair, it id one of the most painful experiences you will ever go through….Faith, family and dear friends help you keep going. The more you ask for Gods help, the more he gives you. Our prayers are with you and Merlin and your families.
