Ernest “Ernie” Eugene Evanson was born on January 22, 1936 in Northwood, North Dakota. He died peacefully at age 88 on April 5, 2024 at St Catherine’s North in Fargo, North Dakota.

His parents, Sophus and Caroline (Lena) Evanson, farmed by Northwood, ND where he attended a one room schoolhouse in his early years. Ernest graduated from Northwood High before enlisting in the US Army. After serving in the Army, he then attended and graduated from the University of North Dakota.

After graduating college, he moved to California where he met Dianne Kennedy. They married on December 4, 1970. They returned to Northwood in 1977 until moving to Fargo, ND in 1984 where they made their home. He drove cab for Doyle Cab Company until his retirement in 1998. He was known to many as Ernie 230.

Ernie enjoyed spending time with family, relaxing at Shell Lake, MN, doing his daily crossword puzzles, and watching sports and old time westerns.

Ernest is survived by wife Dianne Evanson; daughters, Stacy (Richard Forderer) Evanson, Deborah (Shane) Mondry; granddaughters, Amanda (Cody) Rhinhart, Sarah (Jordan Thompson) Tarvestad, Olivia Evanson; great-grandson, Theo Rhinhart; sister, Edith Lee; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Sophus and Caroline “Lena” Evanson; and brothers, Hayward Evanson and Carl “Bennie” Evanson.

Ernest’s burial will be on Wednesday, April 17th at 2pm at Washington Lutheran Church in Northwood, ND.
