Ethel Hoffman

Ethel O. Hoffman, age 91, passed away on 1/1/2014, peacefully in her sleep.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Hoffman, her son, Gary T. Hoffman, her brother, Joseph Logan, and her sister, June Barth.

Ethel was born on September 26th, 1922 in Moorhead, MN, to her parents, Minnie and Thomas Logan. Ethel graduated high school from Moorhead High and was a proud “Spud”. Ethel Logan and Lou Hoffman married on 5/2/1942 and were married for almost 41 years when Lou passed away.

Ethel and Lou had an adventurous marriage which included living in California, Oklahoma, Colorado and Fargo; hunting and fishing trips to Canada; many lovely weekends at their cabin on Lake Melissa; two driving trips to Mexico, and enjoying the sport of golf together. Additionally, they went out most Saturday nights for dinner and dancing at the Elks Club, VFW, and/or American Legion Clubs in town. They had 4 children, three of which survive today.

Ethel was an excellent bookkeeper which served both Lou and Ethel well as they ran their business,

“The Silver Tray”, in downtown Fargo for almost 20 years (from approximately 1957-1977 when it was located at 408 Broadway).

Ethel was a member of Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo for more than 50 years. She enjoyed the PLS group at Olivet. Ethel was also an avid bridge player for many years in a couple of local leagues—including the YMCA league.

Survivors include her children David Hoffman (Jan) of Rochester, MN/Merritt Island, FL; Dawn Hoffman Lee of Los Angeles, CA; Mark Hoffman (Kim) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her sister, Marlys Heng (Stanley) of Barnesville, MN; eight grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She will forever be cherished in our hearts as a loving, caring and generous person of faith.

In lieu of flowers, please mail memorials to Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND.
