Eugene “Gene” Berger 85, of Custer, SD, formerly of Fargo ,ND died Thursday July 21,2022 surrounded by family.
Gene was born December 27,1936 in Mandan, ND and was the son of Phillip and Francis (Froelich) Berger.
Gene was raised in Mandan, ND attended grade school and high school in Mandan. He then joined the US Navy in 1954.
It was while he was in the Navy he married Audrey Joan Gartner of Mandan. The couple moved to Fargo ND in 1961 where they raised their family of 5 children.
Gene worked for Sears in Fargo from 1961-till 1984. Gene then started working for the Fargo Housing Authority until his retirement in 2001.
Gene obtained his realtor license and sold lake property in the Detroit Lakes MN area.
Gene had a love for music and played in many country bands for over 53 years. He taught private guitar and bass music lessons.
Gene enjoyed many adventures and that brought him to move the the Black Hills in South Dakota in 2019.
Gene’s latest enjoyments were Skydiving, ATV riding in the black Hills, Horseback riding and Helicopter tours. Gene enjoyed touring the many sights in the black Hills.
Gene is survived by his 5 children, Allan (Sharon) Berger Bismarck, ND, Susan (Mark) Sellin, Hawley, MN, Kevin (Karla) Berger Fargo, ND, Keith (Sheila) Berger Fargo, ND, Rev. Nancy (Rev. Brad) Zachow Hot Springs, SD; 7 Grandchildren, Matthew Berger, Nickolas Haertling, Devyn Haertling, Jordyn Berger, Jarod Berger, Lauren Sellin & Reagan Sellin; one great granddaughter, Lyric Haertling, brother, Clem (Val) Berger of Washington, sister in-law, Jo Berger, and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Berger, mother, Francis Berger, brother Robert Berger and sister, Cecilla Berger Eckert

The world lost a fine guy, a fun man and a maker of good memories. My sympathys to the Berger family.
So sorry to all of Gene’s family and friends. He was a great guy, always smiling, making people laugh and sharing his many talents.

Nothing but great memories, of Gene, and his family. Gene did live life to the fullest. I know Gene meant a whole lot to each of his children. A testament to him being a great father. So sorry for their loss. He truly was a fine man. Going to miss him.
