Fernand Duval, 92, Fargo, ND, passed away on August 13, 2022.
Fernand Joseph Duval was born April 3, 1930 in the big town of Horace, ND. He was the 4th son to Edward and Albertine Duval. He grew up on the family farm. He joined the Army January 1952 where he began his enlistment as Private First Class, completing the Heavy Truck Course, where he was then was stationed in Anchorage Alaska. He was awarded the Nation Defense Service Medal before ending his service on December 11, 1953.
November 1954 he meet the love of his life, Betty Goldade, at the Fargo Crystal Ball Room. They were united in marriage June 15, 1955. Their first bundle of joy, Judy, arrived May 1956 followed by another daughter, Roxanne in June 1958. His only son, Rick, arrived in April 1960 the family was complete with the arrival of Janet in June 1963.
He was always a great provider for his family, working two jobs for many years. He started his career as a Furniture Service Specialist for Mr. Harry Simon, Simon Furniture, after leaving the military. He stayed with Simon’s Furniture for 35 years, working numerous second jobs including Cass Clay Creamy, Bell Telephone then starting his own lawn service. 1989 he started his own business of Frenchie’s Furniture Repair where he worked until he retired.
His love for steam began in 1960 when he received a Waterloo Boy Antique Engine from Clareance Gustafson, his neighbor, which lead him to his many years of enjoyment at the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag, MN rebuilding engines and steam engines. His grandchildren spent many Labor Day Weekends making memories and getting into mischief with their Grandpa and Grandma. He also occupied his retirement days making many flavors of wine then he ventured into the world of coloring by number! His true love was being with his family, whether they were playing cards or just hanging out. There were always lots of laughs and plenty of mischievousness.
His memories will always be carried in our hearts, Betty Duval, wife. Children: Judy (Roger) Unterseher, Roxy Waryan, Rick (Sandy) Duval and Janet (Terry) Metzger. Grandchildren: Chad (Amy), Ryan, Krystal (Rob), Annissa, Colton, Katy (Mike), Alex, Austin, Gabby and Addy. Great-grandchildren: Kylie, Mason and Wesley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Albertine. His brothers: Roger, Arcade, Gabby and Don. His son-in-law, Marc Waryan.

    Deepest sympathies on losing one of the best. I enjoyed waiting on Frenchy, Betty and all of you all these years. He was quite the character and just a good man. He could make me laugh! Know that he is still watching over the family he loved and was so proud of. The AMVETs will miss his presence.
