Florence Schmidt

florence schmidt
Florence A. Schmidt, Fargo, ND, died on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND at the age of 81. Florence was born on February 24, 1927, in Granville, IA to Michael and Catherine (Ahlers) Steffes. The family moved to a farm near Arthur, ND in 1936. She graduated from Arthur High School and attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND obtaining a degree in accounting and bookkeeping. She worked in Hunter, ND at State Oil and Auto. She moved to LaMoure, ND and worked in the Ford Garage for many years as a bookkeeper. Florence married Wilfred J. ?Willie? Schmidt on October 21, 1952, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in LaMoure, ND. They made their home on the family farm near Dickey where they farmed and raised their family. In 1994, Wilfred and Florence moved to West Fargo, North Dakota, where they made their home until March of 2003, when they moved to Riverview Place. She lived there until December of 2007 when she moved to Villa Maria. Florence?s faith was the most important aspect of her life. She was an active member of the Assumption Parish in Dickey, later at Blessed Sacrament Church in West Fargo, and finally at Riverview Place. Her love for gardening enabled her to provide flowers for her church. She also enjoyed music and dancing. But most of all Florence had a deep commitment to her role as wife, mother and friend. Florence taught us how to love, how to forgive each other and how to be kind to one another by how she lived each day of her life. Florence touched many lives and will remain always in our hearts. Florence is survived by her son, Michael and Sara of West Fargo; two daughters, MaryAnne (Darwin) Bitz of Dickey and their children: Dallon and Amanda Bitz, and Rosemarie (Tom) Haegele of Aberdeen, South Dakota and their children: Karli, Kindra and Kaiden Haegele. She is also survived by her sisters, Bernice Watkins, Ortonville, SD, Lorraine Quinlin (Elmer) Faribault, MN, Alice Gentzkow, Riverview Place, Fargo, ND; brothers, Leo Steffes, Cleveland, OH and Clarence Steffes (Marjo), LaMoure, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Irene Prochniak. VISITATION: 6 ? 7 PM Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Riverview Place Chapel in Fargo with a Prayer Service at 7 PM.
