Francis L. “Frank” Johnson, 82, Fargo passed away Friday, November 20 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Frank was born on April 12, 1927 in Fargo to Madge Bennett and Clarence Johnson. He grew up in Harwood, ND where he received his schooling. On his seventeenth birthday he enlisted in the US Navy serving as a Signalman aboard the Cruiser “USS Detroit” in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He returned in 1946 to Fargo and was employed by the Veterans Administration. He transferred to the Internal Revenue Service in 1953 where he completed his Government career retiring in 1976. He was then employed part time with the Fargo Federal Employee Federal Credit Union as an assistant treasurer until 1989. He was a life member of the VFW, and a 60 plus year member of the American Legion. He married Lucille M. Buth on November 9, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran, Sabin, MN. They made their home in Fargo. She died in 1986. On May 13, 1988 he married Marilyn G. Johnson at Hope Lutheran in Fargo. While they resided in Fargo, they did extensive traveling and spent their winters in Mesa, AZ. She died in 2002. He is survived by two children, Judy (Lyle) Smith, Perham, MN, David L. (Bonnie) Johnson, Fargo, three step-children, Rhonda Omdahl, Deer Lodge, MT, Eric (Nicole) Johnson, Kazakhstan, Brian Johnson, Burnsville, MN, three grandchildren, five step-children, one great-grandson, and by his very special friend, Betty Schwab, Fargo. There will be a memorial service on Monday at 11, November 23, at Hope Lutheran Church, North Campus with Inurnment at Oakwood Cemetery, Harwood, ND. Memorials preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
