With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Frank Lawton on December 5, 2023, at the age of 91. Born on November 10, 1932, in St. John, ND, Frank was the son of Fredrick and Grace Lawton.

Frank spent his childhood in Grafton, where he attended Grafton Schools and special education classes. In 1966, he made the bold decision to leave Grafton and subsequently relocated to Grand Forks and then to Fargo.

Throughout his life, Frank worked in various dishwashing roles, including at the Mexican Village and The Elks Club. Later on, he found fulfillment working at the ARC Thrift Store. In 1982, he entered the Community Survival Program, which later became Community Living Services, where he received steadfast support until 2021.

In August 2021, due to health concerns, Frank moved to the Meadows on South University, where he resided until his peaceful passing in December 2023.

Frank had a zest for life and enjoyed his daily walks, which he faithfully engaged in for most of his years. He cherished the company of his friends, delving into conversations and sharing laughter. Frank found solace in studying his bible and reading the Fargo Forum.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Fredrick and Grace, as well as his siblings, Lois Johnson, Fred, and Elgie Lawton.

Frank’s memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and the community he touched.

  1. I had the privilege of working with Frankie when I started working part time at CLS in 2019. He always made me smile and laugh and he was great at joking around with me. I was sad to hear about his passing. Frankie was quite a gem and will be missed by many!

  2. It was a joy to get to know Frankie at the Meadows as I was fortunate to be with him most Tuesday afternoons during the celebration of Mass at The Meadows. Frankie brought so much joy to the community at The Meadows and he brought joy each week as we gathered to celebrate Mass.
