Gar’s service will be livestreamed and viewable below starting at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026:
Garlyn “Gar” Albert, age 77, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away on April 23, 2026. Gar was a proud military veteran who served in Vietnam and in the Army National Guard. He loved his country and carried that pride with him throughout his life.
Gar was born on January 28, 1949, and grew up in Nashua, Minnesota.
Gar found joy in life’s simple pleasures – especially fishing. His happy place was on the dock at MiLo’s and his fishing line had a talent of its own: getting tangled in trees and neighboring docks. The end of season fish fry was a special moment of pride for him. He also loved playing cards, reading, and had a deep appreciation for music. He particularly loved sitting around a fire, taking turns with everyone’s song requests.
Gar was a competitive athlete who loved sports and was a loyal (yet often disappointed) Minnesota sports fan. Gar will be remembered for his humor, intelligence, spirited political debates, and the deep love he had for his family. He enjoyed the mischief he shared with his brothers, the closeness he maintained with his sisters, and the pride he had for his children and grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the VA in Fargo. Gar was extremely well cared for, and his strong attitude and light-hearted demeaner made him a clear favorite among the staff.
He will be greatly missed, fondly remembered, and very likely quoted by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gar is survived by his daughter, Camille (partner, Chris) Rothi; son, Cale (partner, Tyan) Albert; sisters, Karleen (Dennis) Barlage, Pam (Mark) Neseth, Ronda (John) Hanson, Lori (Michael) Ibach, and Kayla Aanenson; brothers, Jeff (partner, Lori) Albert and Karlo (Jan) Albert; and beloved grandsons, Jordan (partner, Allison), Jacob (Abigail), Gavin, and Seamus. He also had 35 nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Iris Albert; his brother, Vance Albert; his wife, Jo, and his partner, Casey.
In lieu of memorials, donations can be made to the VA Health System in Fargo, ND.
After the services, family and friends are invited for a Celebration of Life at CJ’s Tavern at Rose Creek. 1500 E Rose Creek Pkwy S Fargo, ND 58104

Thank you Jerry and Cheryl!!
This message is for my dear friend Karleen. I am so sorry to see notice of Gar’s passing. My brother Steven really liked Gar as a friend. Both Steven and Gar have passed away. Little did we know in our wonderful childhoods that life would be so short. We must make every day meaningful. Thank you for your service Gar. May you rest in God’s peace. Love Carol Lockhart
Carol, it was so nice to hear from you! As you well know, it is hard losing a sibling. But we will carry those memories of our brothers forever in our hearts! Love you Carol for thinking of us during this sad time. Karleen
