Gary Peter Arth, born on September 29, 1945, to John and Veronica (Vaplon) Arth in Breckenridge Minnesota, peacefully passed away on January 6, 2025. Gary’s journey began in humble beginnings, attending Saint Boniface Catholic School and later graduating from Lidgerwood High School in 1963.
His early years were marked by hard work in road construction, but his life took a turn when he married Darlene Kackman in 1964, just before he enlisted in the Army from 1965 to 1968. His service led him through various stations, from boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri to a year in France and deployment to Vietnam from Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
After his military service, Gary drove semi-trucks for Standard Oil for a decade. Following this he worked for Leonard and Charlie Richards, Argusville, ND. He then started a career with Auto Glass Service, where he worked until 1988. He then transitioned to traveling sales, representing Marketing Inc. and Action Automotive. After retirement Gary enjoyed his part time job with Berg Automotive.
Gary cherished his adventures, especially snowmobile trips to Yellowstone and back country rides in Northern Minnesota and the trails around Fargo Moorhead. Weekends at the lake, fishing and memorable fly in fishing trips to Canada held a special place in his heart.
His patriotism shone through with his involvement in the Color guard with the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 941, where he enjoyed camaraderie with fellow veterans over weekly breakfasts.
Gary is survived by his sons: Ron (Lisa) Arth, Bismarck, Jay Arth, Wahpeton, grandchildren: Cody Arth, Emily Wetzel and Logan Arth; great grandchildren: Shianne Arth, Crewz Wetzel and Courtney Wetzel; sisters, Josephine Frolek, and Judy Medenwaldt and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Veronica; stepfather, Joe Gaukler, brother, George Arth; sisters Jeanette Herding, Joyce Pellman and JoAnn Hinsverk, as well as one niece, four nephews; and Haley Arth; and special friend, Judy Clark.
The family extends their gratitude to special friends, Terri Schwarz and Sheryl Spivey for their unwavering support during Garys’ battle with COPD. Gary will be remembered for his resilience, his love for adventure, quick wit and his dedication to his Country and loved ones.
