Gary was born February 13, 1958 in Bismarck, ND to W. Donald and Shirley (Rohrer) Truax. He was raised on a farm southwest of Steele, ND and learned from his father how to be a stellar mechanic. Gary graduated from Steele-Dawson High School in 1977 and from NDSU in 1989 with a double major in Agricultural Economics and Business Administration. Gary was commissioned into the Minnesota National Guard as a Combat Engineer Officer from 1987 to 1991.
On July 2, 1994, Gary married his lovely wife Kathryn Mary McCoy. Keeping true to Gary’s roots in country living, they moved to a farmstead north of Erie, ND where they raised their wonderful family of three kids. His favorite hobbies included tractor collecting, welding, piloting small planes, wood working, driving party buses, playing card games, and playing songs on the piano and guitar. Gary worked very hard to support his family as a semi-truck driver and was an owner operator from 1998 to 2022. He was proud to drive his truck for Magnum (Fargo, ND), D&E Transport (Hastings, MN) and Killoran (Buffalo, ND). One of his treasured annual traditions was attending Western Minnesota’s Steam Threshers Reunion (Rollag, MN), and he was a lifetime member of the Northern Lights Oliver Club. Gary had a huge personality and was a gifted storyteller. He cherished his friendships and looked forward to talking and making fun plans for the future. He had a deep love for his family and adored his grandson, Leon Hernandez.
During his last days, Gary enjoyed hearing the Gospel and was very focused on Jesus.
Gary is survived by his wife of over 28 years, Kathryn, Erie ND; children, Michael Truax, Erie, ND, Anna (Bryant) Hernandez, Prosper, TX, and Matthew Truax, Grand Forks, ND; grandson, Leon Hernandez, Prosper, TX; siblings, Tom (Trudy) Truax, Menoken, ND, Arnold (Linda) Truax, Seguin, TX, Diane Dizayee, Jamestown, ND, Julie (Jim) Haakenson, Cleveland, ND, Paul (Janice) Truax, Harrisburg, SD, Nancy (Wilford) Secker, Selby, SD, Carrie Truax, Steele ND, Ron (Lisa) Truax, Jamestown, ND, and Glenn Truax (Diana) Jamestown ND; and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and dear friends.

Truax family,
Very sorry to hear about Gary’s death. So good memories are lasting!
Kathy, Michael, Anna, Bryant, Leon and Matthew. We are so very saddened by your loss and you all have our deepest sympathies. May all of you find solace as you reflect on the many fond memories your family made over the years; numerous over-the-road trucking trips, boat outings, tractor auctions, air shows and even family barn burning ceremonies! Gary made a profound impact in all of your lives…just as surely as he was greatly touched and forever changed by all of you. He will forever be with all of you as he lives on in your hearts. I pray that God bless and help guide each of you through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Perry, Natasha, Eric and Tristan
