Gayle was known for the love of being the center of attention and catching everyone’s hearts. She never held back and told you what she thought. Gayle was always the bright light everyone needed in the room – always making people smile and laugh.

Gayle is survived by her loving parents Gary and Judy Nysveen of Cummings, ND; her sisters – Tracy Nysveen-Kapaun of Fargo, ND; and Rachal (Greg) Thompson of Alexandria, MN; her nephew and nieces – Steven Nysveen of Fargo, ND; Ashley Bogardus of Annandale, MN; and Briley Thompson of Alexandria, MN; along with many other very dear family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Duane and Eileen Lyng, Lynn Nysveen, Emogene and Einer Beck; and other family and friends.

Gayle was the eldest of three daughters to Gary and Judy Nysveen born on November 21, 1972, in Hillsboro, ND. She was raised in Cummings, ND, until 1976, when the family moved to Wahpeton, ND. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND, until 1979, when they moved to Fargo, in 1989, where she lived for many years. Gayle had most recently made her home in Hillsboro to live her final years closer to family.

Gayle was baptized in Cummings. During her childhood she was actively involved in the Special Olympics, where she won many awards. She even competed in the 1987 and 1991 Special Olympics World Summer Games. She was awarded Poster Child 1980-1981; Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 2008; and received two Certificate of Appreciation. Gayle graduated from North Fargo High School in 1994. After high school she received services from Svee, CLS and VTC. Gayle worked at many places during her life and loved helping when she could. Gayle lived at the Hillsboro Nursing home until her passing.

Gayle enjoyed watching sports with her father, Gary, singing along to high school musicals with friends, staff, and family, and watching her favorite wrestler, John Cena. She also liked attending church with her friends and family. Gayle loved spending her days coloring – she could never get enough coloring books or markers! She was well known for jamming out to music and always said “Rock ‘N Roll.”

The family would like express our sincere and loving appreciation to all the staff and friends at Svee, CLS, and VTC in Fargo, and to the HIA Hospice, and all the doctors, nurses, staff, and friends at the Sanford Hillsboro Care Center and especially the Long-Term Care staff – Thank you for loving Gayle like family!

Rock ‘N Roll Spirit

She always held a spotlight,
She was loud and proud and bold.
Cheering on the Bison,
She wore her green and gold.

A champion in sport,
Outstanding citizen and true friend,
With medals earned in glory,
She’s a winner to the end.

With a “Rock ‘N Roll” spirit,
Like a star in an arena,
She was the life of the party,
Cheering loud for John Cena.

With every shade of purple,
And every mark of blue,
She colored in the moments
And she colored in us, too.

Though she’s finished with her crayons,
And her picture is complete,
She’s found her place in Heaven,
Where the joy is just as sweet.

In the arms of loving Jesus,
At peace with God above,
She’s coloring all of Heaven
With the brightness of her love.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Gayle brought so much light and love into our lives. She brightened my day every day I worked. I am thankful for the time I had with her. I will miss her very much.

  2. I met Gayle when I first started working at Sanford Health LTC, and from the very beginning she became one of the brightest parts of my day. Every morning I would make sure to stop and say good morning to her, and she would always greet me with that warm smile and her sweet voice saying, “How are you?” It was such a small moment, but it meant so much to me and became something I looked forward to every day.
Gayle had a way of making people feel special and cared for. My son and daughter also grew a close and loving relationship with her, and it meant the world to me to see how much joy they brought to one another. She touched our lives in such a genuine and beautiful way.
Gayle will be deeply missed by all of us. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts. I will always be grateful that God placed Gayle in my life. Knowing her was truly a gift, and I will carry the memories of her kindness, warmth, and love with me forever.

  3. I had the privilege of being one of her caregivers in residential through VTC. It was always a joy to see her and spend time with her. She will be missed and have a special place in my heart.

  4. I pray for God’s peace and comfort for all of you.

  5. When I heard the news that Gayle had passed , my first thought was was I know who the first one on the other side waiting for her was her Grandma Emogene to welcome her to heaven.
Rest in peace. Dean and Lisa Johnson

  6. Judy,
My deepest sympathy in passing of your daughter, your family will be in my prayers.

  7. Gayle was the first child I babysat for, and she always had a smile on her face. I saw her this past summer and she still had a smile on her face. Prayers for her family and may you cherish all the memories. 💕

  8. Judy and Gary, Sending prayers for you and your family. I always enjoy the time I got to spend with Gayle, Tracy and Rachal when I had the pleasure of doing daycare for them.

  9. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I remember when Gayle was born to one of our “best” babysitters! Although I did not have the honor of knowing Gayle as she grew up, she sounds like someone I could easily love! I pray God brings you all peace as you celebrate Gayle and her well lived life!
