Gene, age 86, of Horace ND passed peacefully in his home on November 12, 2020 under the excellent care of Ethos Hospice and his wife.
Gene Oliver Iwen was born February 6th, 1934 to parents Oliver & Dagney Mae Iwen of Arthur, ND.

Gene married LaMae Braaten in 1971, which included two more children Jay & Pam.
Gene worked for the Internal Revenue Service until retiring.
He loved gardening, snowmobiling, fishing, carpentry, watching NASCAR and football until his eyes failed. Gene was the most honest, fair, understanding, helpful to anyone who needed it, kind person you could find. He could still recite his Boy Scout Oath.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Glenn & infant sister, daughter Pam Morris and son in law Scott Jacobs.
Due to COVID, there will be no service at this time. The family would like to thank Ethos for all the wonderful care they gave Gene this last year.
Worked with Gene at the IRS in Fargo. Have good memories of those days. Sorry to hear of his passing. Remember one of the employee picnics where we had a softball game. Remember he was a great shortstop!
So sorry to hear of his passing. Many wonderful and fun memories of our youth together. Gene and LaMae were witnesses at our marriage 50 years ago.
Prayers and blessings for all family members during this time of grieving and loss.

Gene was one of the funniest guys I knew. He and LaMae played cards and while Gene couldn’t see clearly, he managed to win on occasion. He had the quickest come backs full of wit and I am sorry to hear of his passing. They had a camper at Frank’s Lodge and we had many fun times together. Lord you got a good one in Gene.
I am so sorry for your loss- Gene was my favorite!
Also sorry to hear about your daughter and son
You have been through a lot. Prayers and hugs to you🙏🙏🙏❤️Valorie Wilson
LaMae–I am so sorry to hear of the losses you have had in such a short time. Please know that I am thinking of you and sending you my prayers.
I still remember the cold January day Gene shoveled out my car after I got stuck delivering a board package to you, LaMae. Praying for comfort and peace in the midst of this difficult time.
