Eugene "Gene" Kurtz

On Thursday, March 26, 2020, Eugene L. Kurtz passed away at the age of 81. Gene was born in Wahpeton, N.D. on October 11, 1938 to Marvin and Eva (Dauer) Kurtz. He was one of three children. Gene graduated from Wyndmere High School in Wyndmere, ND in 1957. After graduation, he moved to Minneapolis, MN and went to work for Farmers Mechanics Mutual Savings Bank. He also worked for the Associated Press, and in 1961, he moved to Sioux Falls, SD and became traffic manager in the distribution of news. In 1963, Gene went to work for Central Sales and Service of Des Moines, IA and became sales manager and traveled throughout the central United States. In 1968, Gene went to the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. In 1969, Gene married Maureen Martin, daughter of Mr & Mrs. Joseph Martin of Avon, MA. They moved to Billings, MT where he traveled throughout the area representing Northland Steel Company of Billings, MT. In 1980, Gene went to work in the home improvement business in Fargo, ND until he retired in 2005. Gene and Maureen raised three beautiful daughters, Wendy, Aubrey, and Lisa, and Gene had one son, Gavin Taylor. Gene loved to travel and hike in many mountain states and also Alaska. He also enjoyed hunting and collecting vintage toy cap guns and handcrafted hunting knives. Gene was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his three daughters: Ms. Wendy Mooney of Maui, HI, Mrs. Aubrey Kurtz (Jack Seaman) of West Fargo, Mrs. Lisa (Chris) Olson of West Fargo, and Mr. Gavin Taylor of Jacksonville, FL.; his 13 grandchildren: Myah, Ashley, Amelia, Shae, Lyric, Robbie, Marisa, Noah, Isaac, Sophia, Lily, Olive, and Penelope; and his sisters: Jeannette Breuer and Evonne Barnum. The family plans a private funeral and burial in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fargo, ND.

  3. Gene…..one of the brightest lights at the Windbreak! Always a smile on your face and a skip in your step. This was the first Christmas I didn’t get a card in return…..I was wondering if everything was ok! My sympathies to you girls…..I feel like I knew you because he spoke so highly of you. Your Dad was a true gem and had an absolute heart of gold!! Rest easy my friend!! I will miss our late night chats! 😇💞
