George Paul Montplaisir,70, of Fargo, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, surrounded by loving family, at his Minnesota lake home on West MacDonald Lake, following a courageous fight with cancer. George was born in Fargo on July 6, 1933, the son of Wilfrid and Julia (Rivard) Montplaisir. He grew up and attended school in Fargo, graduating in the inaugural class of Shanley High School in 1951. Following high school George received an accounting degree from Interstate Business College in Fargo and then worked for Northern Pacific Railroad in Glendive, Mt and in Fargo. On August 4, 1956, George married Marjorie Olson, and together they lovingly raised five children. In 1958 he began a long and successful career at Knight Printing Company, serving as Vice President and Controller, and became an owning partner in the company in 1990. Since his retirement in 1995, George and Marge enjoyed wintering in the company of family and friends in Mesa, AZ, and spending summers at the lakes. George loved life at the lake and all that it had to offer. What meant the most to him was being able to share his home with others. The doors of his lake home were always open to family, friends, and relatives. His generosity will always be remembered by those who knew him. During his years, George enjoyed many outdoor activities, including camping, hunting, fishing and golfing. He built his own sailboat and enjoyed many summer days taking friends and family for rides. George was preceded in death by his parents and will be missed by his wife, Marjorie; five children, Susan (Curt) Rydell, Fargo; Kevin, Fargo; Brenda (Todd) MacDonald, Winnipeg, MB, Canada; Judy (Daniel) Roach, Audubon, MN; and Keith (Trina), Fargo; his grandchildren Paul and Aaron Rydell, Brett and Elise Montplaisir, Caden, Hunter and Chloe MacDonald, Gabriel Roach and Ben Montplaisir; his siblings Robert (Lucille) Montplaisir, Seattle, WA; Donald (Yvette) Montplaisir, Maude Lake, MN; Bette Haug, Mesa, AZ; and Roy Montplaisir, Mesa, AZ; and other close family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Preston Steen, Joanna Hoffman and the staff of the Roger Maris Cancer Center for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Roger Maris Cancer Center or Hospice.   Funeral: Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., Holy Spirit Church, Fargo.    Prayer Service: Monday, May 31, 2004, at 7:00 p.m., Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.
