Georgina Young

Georgina “Georgie” P. Young was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world on December 5, 2020 at age 65. Georgie was born on August 7, 1955 in Bismarck, ND to Mary and Adam Masseth. She was the second oldest of five children. Years later the family moved to Fargo, ND where she graduated from Fargo South High School. In 1979 she married, and in the years following welcomed sons Jordan and Jared. Georgie was a fun and cheerful person. In her youth she enjoyed traveling, skiing and racing around town on her Suzuki motorcycle and in her Datsun 280Z. When her sons were young, she spent most summers on Little Cormorant jet skiing with her faithful Maltese Jazzy Girl and enjoying pontoon rides. Throughout her life, her creativity gave her a keen eye for decorating to which sparkles were added to almost everything and there could never be enough purple. Her mantra was that one could never accumulate enough purses, one shouldn’t be caught without their lipstick, K-dramas are life and it would serve one well to know the truck schedule at T.J. Maxx. Of all the things she enjoyed, time spent with her family and girlfriends was cherished most. Georgie held various jobs throughout her life. She spent several years working with special needs students at Longfellow Elementary School and Luther Hall. In addition, she held various positions at St. Luke’s, Meritcare and Sanford until her retirement in 2020. Of all the job titles Georgie held, her most important were that of mother and grandmother. She was a dedicated mother and treasured her two sons. She firmly believed curfews were meant to be broken so never set any. She excelled at her role as “Grandma Gigi”; her two grandchildren Matilda and Atticus were her greatest blessings. Georgie is survived by her sons Jordan (Natalie) Young and Jared (Mindy) Young; brothers Wayne (Jackie) and Gene (Liz) Masseth; sisters Marilyn and Jackie Masseth; and two grandchildren Matilda and Atticus Young, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Georgie was preceded in death by her parents Adam and Mary Masseth. For those who loved Georgie, a walk-through celebration of life will be held at Riverside Cemetery at the mausoleum on December 10th from 3:30PM-4:30PM. Due to COVID, we ask that you practice social distancing and wear a mask. In honor of Georgie, please wear something purple and remember, as she so often told her sons, “You’re born; you blink; and it’s over. Go out and live your best life.”

  19. We had so much fun growing up and graduating together. Her smile always lite up any room she was in and if you ran into her, she was always quick to visit and brighten your day! Family was everything to her. I’m so sorry to have missed the service. That’s the hard part about not getting a paper every day! Earth lost an angel and heaven gained one. Prayers and hugs to her family!!! She was a gem!!!

  20. Seems like just 3 years ago Georgie told me the Dr. gave her 10 years to live, so I was very disappointed that she did not get that much time here on earth. We had these 2 things in common, we both graduated South High, 1970 for me, and we worked together at the South University Hospital. I was in Security then and so we shared the spotlight at the main entry front desk. It was always a treat to work with her. She greeted customers so sweetly with her smile. I knew her father from when he worked for the hospital, a good man, Georgie seemed to have an admirable love and respect for him. I liked calling her Georgina and getting a reaction from her. She shared with me memories of childhood growing up in Bismarck and pictures of the house they lived in. She was not without gentlemen admirers while working the front desk who enjoyed talking with her. Yes Georgie, life does seem to pass in the blink of an eye, I will remember that and make every day count. Thanks for the memories. Thoughts and prayers. May every breath you breathe be a prayer of praise.

  21. My deepest sympathy to Georgies family. We met while working at Longfellow. I knew as soon as I met her I wanted us to be friends. Georgie was one of the kindest sweetest people I will ever know. Such a nice obituary and so true. Bless your heart Georgie, you were beautiful inside and out.
