It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Peter Geiger on January 15, 2026, at the age of 77. Gerald, lovingly known as Jerry, was born on July 26, 1948, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Jane Johanna and Dominic Geiger.
Jerry attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck. Following high school, he joined the Army Reserve as a medic, a role that sparked his enduring commitment to healthcare. This commitment led him to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he worked in the inhalation therapy department, now known as respiratory therapy. His vision and leadership were pivotal in establishing St. Luke’s School for Respiratory Therapy, a testament to his dedication to education in the medical field. He continued his role in medical education until transitioning into sales of durable medical equipment, a position he held until his retirement.
In 1971, Jerry married the love of his life, Susan Geiger, in Mantador, North Dakota, after meeting her at St. Luke’s, where she worked at the Fargo Clinic. Their union marked the beginning of a beautiful journey of love, partnership, and shared passions. They began their life together in a cozy cabin at Franklin Lake, where they cultivated a love for fishing, hunting, and outdoor recreation that would resonate through their family for generations.
Jerry cherished time spent with family and friends, whether it was fishing across Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Canada, or enjoying golf trips with “da Boyz.” He took immense pride in his roles as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and husband, all while embracing life with a generous spirit and unwavering patience. Forever the outdoorsman, Jerry and Sue could always be found bird hunting or on their pontoon on Big Cormorant where they had built their dream home and lived for 20 years. His love for crosswords and the joyful chaos brought by his granddaughters were cornerstones of his days, revealing a man who embraced both quiet contemplation and lively family moments.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan Geiger; sons, Trevor Geiger and Todd (Cara) Geiger; granddaughters, Hazel Ellie and Olivia Jane; brother, Richard (Marylee) Geiger; sisters, Donna (Jerry) Young and Janet (Ron) Flick; nieces and nephews, Summer (Mark) Peterson, Josh (Ani) Flick, Cole (Missy) Uecker, Dominique Young, Ryan (Colette) Young, Jon Young, Leslie Anne Geiger, and Matthew Casey (Kat) Geiger; and great nieces and nephews, Piper and Bennett Peterson, Hendrix and Harlow Flick, and Marley and Madison Uecker.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dominic Frank and Jane Johanna Geiger and great niece, Isabella Sophia Young.
Jerry’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to all family and friends for their immense support and to the Sanford Medical team of outstanding doctors and nurses at the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo.
