Gerald Rivard, age 89, of Fargo, ND, died on April 23, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Gerald was born March 29, 1935, in Fargo, ND to Henry Rivard and Antoinette (Sauvageau) Rivard. Gerald grew up on a farm near Wild Rice, ND and attended and graduated from St. Joseph’s School in St. Benedict in 1953. Gerald entered the U.S. Army in March of 1955 and was discharged in March of 1957. He joined the ND Air National Guard in 1971 and worked as a crew chief until his retirement from the guard in 1992.
He worked at Dan’s Oil & Service in West Fargo until 1970 when he enrolled in Kundert Aviation Mechanical School and received his A&P license for aircraft maintenance. Because of his love of airplanes, he acquired his private pilot license in 1971.
Gerald and Myrna Borho were married at the Cathedral of St. Mary in Fargo, ND on April 18, 1959.
In 1971 he started working at the VA Hospital in Fargo as House Keeping Supervisor and retired in 1997. After retirement they started spending their winters in Yuma, AZ where they enjoyed all the sunshine and visiting with his three “snowbird” brothers from Seattle, WA.
Gerald was a member of the KC’s and Moose Lodge for over 50 years and Amvets for many years.
He enjoyed the time spent with his 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. The family spent a lot of summers camping, fishing, and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna, of 65 years; his three sons and one daughter – Roger (Connie) of Bloomington, MN; Keith (Linda) of Omaha, NE; Carleen (Rick) Bertelsen of Fairmont, ND; and Mark (Jennie) of Fargo; and his twin brother, Jerome (Carol) Rivard of Fargo. Also surviving are his grandchildren – Elizabeth, Regina, Jeremy, Angela, Therese, Denae, Drew, Danielle, Derek, Dawn, David, Nick, Nate, Sadie, Tyler, and Lilly; his brother-in-law, Robert (Viola) Borho; and sisters-in-law, Donna Waltz and Dorothy Montplaisir.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Sr. Henrietta Marie; and three brothers and sisters-in-law – David (Helen), Richard (Patricia), Donald (Maxine); his brothers-in-law – Richard (Jan) Borho, William Borho, Francis Waltz, and sister-in-law, Albina (Robert) Reichmuth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Cathedral of St. Mary in Fargo or to the Fago AMVETS Post #7.
FUNERAL MASS: 2 PM Monday, April 29, 2024, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo – with a visitation one hour prior
VISITATION: 5-6:30 PM Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo – with a ROSARY at 6:30 PM followed by a PRAYER SERVICE beginning at 7 PM
BURIAL: Holy Cross North Cemetery in Fargo
