Glennis N. Spelhaug, 94, Fargo, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Edgewood Vista under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Glennis N. Spelhaug was born to Lars and Mina (Fingerson) Spelhaug near Wyndmere, ND. He grew up and attended school at Wyndmere until he joined his family in farming. Glennis served in the Air Force where he was trained as a door gunner. He returned to North Dakota following his tour in Germany. Glennis Spelhaug and LaVerne Helfeld were married on February 17, 1962 at Elim Lutheran Church, Fargo. They lived and farmed outside of Valley City on the homestead where LaVerne was raised until their retirement from farming in 1996 when they moved to Fargo.

Glennis enjoyed music and was self taught on piano and accordion. He was a fabulous story teller with a great sense of humor. He was a talented woodworker.

Glennis was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne, parents, 5 brothers, 5 sisters, and numerous in-laws.

He is survived by his sisters, Glenda Clark, Spokane, WA, Marjorie (Milton) Layton, Auburn, WA, Sister-in-law, Ethel Spelhaug, Wahpeton and nieces and nephews: Ron (Karen) Spelhaug, Alan (Shirley) Spelhaug, LuAnn (Roy) Ellison, MarJean Currie, Wayne (Doris) Erickson, Erroll (Gayna)Spelhaug, Terry (Carlotta) Spelhaug, Renee (Steve) Anderson, Loree Gauffin, Bob (Lori) Layton, Wendy (Larry) McDougal, Karen (Fred) Hollon, Chuck (Lori) Clark, Jeannie (Robert) Blue, Carla (Eric) Alsid, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Memorials preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley and Olivet Lutheran Church.

  1. Ashford CtWe are so sorry for your loss. Mom called us last night and she said she spoke to him on his birthday, and sang Happy Birthday and his last words to her were “Thank you for that” She will treasure that memory.
