Gloria V. Tossett, 81 of Fargo, died Friday, October 5, 2007 in the Palliative Care Unit of MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Gloria Vay Tossett was born in Hamar, ND on January 31, 1926, the daughter of Oscar and Bernice Ellingson Tossett. Gloria graduated from Concordia College with a BS Degree in Education and in church parish work. She had been an organist at the Sandsvar Lutheran Church in Warwick since she was in the eighth grade. She taught school at Lake Washington Consolidated School south of Warwick and Logan Center Consolidated School out of Northwood and Aneta. She also taught in Jamestown, Devils Lake and Detroit Lakes, MN. In 1972, she graduated from North Dakota State University with an MS Degree in Education Administration. She was Superintendent at the Balfour, Flaxton and Buchanan Schools and was county coordinator for the sixteen schools in Harding County, SD. In 1984, she ran for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. She was Title VII Director of Bilingual Education and Curriculum at Trenton, ND. She also taught music and art there. Gloria was a Grand Representative and sixty year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also an organist for Ionic Chapter OES in New Rockford and a member of Daughters of the Pioneers. She has written two books, Twuddleville Mouse and Angel Album. Gloria also attended the University of Montana in Missoula, MT, Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN and the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Gloria is survived by her son, Stafne Tossett Borstad and her daughter, Ivy Vay Engh. Memorial Service: Monday, October 8 at 11:00 am at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
