Fargo, ND
Resided in:
West Fargo, ND
Grant Steven German, 27, joined his Eternal Savior on October 19th, 2022 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He passed away at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND surrounded by his loving family.
Grant was born on March 10th, 1995, in Fargo, ND to Tom and Julie German. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed at Crosspointe Lutheran Church. He attended school in Fargo and played football at Davies High School. Grant moved with his family to Indiana during his high school years and graduated from Lake Central High School in St. John, IN. Grant returned to the Fargo-Moorhead area to attend Concordia College where he played football for 2 years. He transferred to North Dakota State University and finished his bachelor’s degree in Biological Science. Grant worked both for Sanford Health and Essentia Health as a Lab Technician and Phlebotomist. He loved his work, and he especially loved helping other people.
Grant spent much of his free time at his family’s cabin on Pelican Lake where he regularly went sailing with friends. He was also a trivia enthusiast, logging over 8000 questions while in the hospital playing with those around him! But mostly he loved being with friends and family and spending time with his nieces and nephews, watching their sports and activities.
Grant was a very strong, courageous, and humble Christian man. He was kind, generous, and loving. He was always thinking about how he could help someone before thinking of himself. During his battle with brain cancer, Grant never once complained about his situation; his prayers were for family, friends, and caregivers.
Grant gave his best and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was loved by everyone. Grant remains an inspiration to those who knew him.
Grant is survived by parents Tom and Julie German of Pelican Rapids, MN, sister Alissa (Rev. Duncan) McLellan of Waconia, MN, brother Dr. Paul (Alexandra) German, Grand Forks, ND, nieces and nephews Thomas, Sarah, & Luke McLellan, and Theodore & Elisabeth German, and many cousins and relatives. Grant is also survived by his grandmother, Agatha Herding of Hankinson, ND.
Grant was preceded in death by his grandparents Edgar and Lois Turner of Kensal, ND, and Paul A. German of Hankinson, ND.
Memorials are preferred to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Fargo, Care Ministries in honor of Grant German.

Tom and Julie, we wish to express our deepest condolences to you and your family. Use family and friends at this time to help.
Tom, Julie and family,
Sending our deepest sympathy to you all for the loss of son, brother and uncle. We were so saddened to read in the Forum you had lost Grant to brain cancer. From our time together years ago, we remember him as a toddler. Reading your remembrance, we can see what a handsome and accomplished young man he grew to be.
We too now have a cabin on Crystal lake right outside of Pelican Rapids. Our hope is that we can reconnect for a time of fellowship in the future.
Again, we are so very sorry for your loss.
With loving sympathy and friendship,
Paul, Diane and Tangen family
We were so saddened to hear of your loss. We know we can’t make your pain go away, but pray you take comfort in knowing Grant’s at peace, free of pain, in a beautiful place we can only imagine. We hope and pray the special memories you made together help you through this difficult time.
So sorry for your loss Julie. Absent from the body, present with the Lord. He alone is our hope.
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
oh May I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone, redeemed to stand before His throne!
On Christ, the solid rock;
all other ground is sinking sand
Hope this hymn sticks in your head as we look forward to a heavenly reunion with Grant and all the company of heaven!
Praying for you all. May the Lord Jesus give you His strength. So sorry.
Julie and Tom, Alissa and Paul,
Praying for comfort for you all, and sending love and hugs from Louisiana. We are just so sorry for the loss of Grant. You raised a special young man.
From the Dorwards…
May God go with you in the coming days. We are so sad to hear of Grants passing. Your family was a special new friendship we made in our days with Broc at UND. I hope our paths cross many times again. Please know we are with you in thought and prayers. Our hearts ache for you.
I’m sorry, We were out of town or we would have been there for you. Our sympathies,
