Gregory Sattler

gregory sattler
Gregory (Greg) John Sattler, 67, passed away July 5th, 2018 under the care of the Fargo VA Medical Center. Greg was born on May 27th, 1951 to John and Jeanne Sattler in Fargo, ND. He attended West Fargo High School until he volunteered for the Vietnam War when he was 17; where he served 3 years in the Army. He volunteered again June 19th 1972 and served 2 more years in the 509th Airborne as a Paratrooper. He was wounded in 1974 when a jump went wrong and got caught in a tree. He had to cut himself down and injured his back for many years to come. He came back home to Fargo to find a world that didn’t accept him as a veteran of a war most didn’t understand. He then decided to live a colorful life with travel and hitchhiked his way across the U.S. during the 70’s and 80’s where he saw almost all of the 50 states and worked odd jobs to make ends meet. Along the way he had 2 children, Patti and Michael, whom he loved but the itch to see more, living with PTSD and other issues made it hard for him to find balance to life. He was constantly in search of something. His love for travel and adventure eventually landed him back into ND, where he met Mona Frahm in Jamestown in 1991. They had Andrea in 1992 and decided to get married and had a son Spencer in 1994. He worked with Mona at Svee Home (now Red River Human Services) for about 5 years. Greg enjoyed getting to know people, hanging out at the dike, seeing his buddies at the VA and decorating his cane when he had inspiration. He loved music and revered Jimi Hendrix which he passed onto his kids. He will be missed greatly. Preceding Greg in death are his mom and dad- John and Jeanne, former wife- Mona, two sisters Jeanine and Anne, and four brothers- Charles, Eugene, Donald and Brad. Survivors include his sons Spencer and Michael, daughters; Andrea and Patti and many friends and fellow veterans. Many thanks extended to the exceptional care shown and given at the Fargo VA Medical Center and the Home Health Staff with Sanford. Your kindness will not be forgotten. The Memorial Dinner will be held at Lindenwood Park in Fargo, ND on Sunday July 15th, 2018 from 11:30am-2:30pm at the Shelter #2 for those who cannot travel for the burial. (1905 Roger Maris Dr, Fargo, ND 58103) Burial will be held at Fort Snelling National Veterans' Cemetery at 1:45pm Tuesday July 17th, 2018. (7601 34th Avenue, South Minneapolis, MN 55450)

  3. I met Greg at the VA where I work. He would always stop by, say hello & ask if I had any candy for him. We would always laugh because he didn’t have his upper teeth so I gave him gum! I always carried a fresh pack of gum with me just in case Greg stopped by! I gave him his last pack July 3rd & I honestly didn’t think that would be the last. He had talked about his kids & the love he had for them but he wasn’t sure if they really knew just how much! Please know your Dad loved the 4 of you very much! Have no regrets & carry his love in your hearts! You have quite the Angel up there watching over you all! RIP Greg! You are just 1 of the reasons I loved coming to work! I will miss seeing u! 💗💗
