Halger F. Lindgren, 93, Fargo, passed away Friday, December 11 in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Halger was born Nov 1, 1916 near Hope, ND to Oscar and Signe Lindgren (Johnson). Halger attended and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1935. After graduation, he married Bertha Buringrud in 1940 and farmed in the Hillsboro area for 40 years. After retirement, Halger moved to Fargo in 1980, helping his son on the farm for 10 years. Halger worked for 15 years as a Golf Course ranger for the Fargo Park Board. He served on the Herberg Township and School Board for 12 years. He was a Grain Inspector through AAA board (ASCS). Halger served on the FHA Board, also on the Soil Conservation Board for 16 years, and was the County Commissioner for 14 years. He also served on the Welfare Board for 8 years. He then was a member on the Flood Board for 3 years. He was instrumental in starting the 4-H Club along with his wife, Bertha. Among many other organizations, Halger was on the ASC Board for 5 years, Elevator Board for 12 years, Sugar Beet Association Board for 3 years, Member of Masonic Lodge #10, a member of the Grand Forks Elks Lodge, and was also active in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, and a member of Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. Halger, among other things, loved to read, golf and enjoyed all sports. Halger was a very generous, giving, and personable man who helped others without ever asking for anything in return. Halger is survived by his loving wife, Bertha, son Gary Lindgren, Fargo, ND/Grapevine, TX, Daughters, Kathryn (Meredith) Schultz, Fargo, ND, Sue Carole (Thomas) Brennan, Scottsdale, AZ, son, Larry Lindgren (Patricia), Hillsboro, ND, 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, brother, Sigurd Lindgren (Alice), Fargo, ND, sisters, Helen Works, San Marcus, CA, Ruth Barrett (Bob), LaJolla, CA, Vivian Thompson, Sun City, CA, and sister-in-law, Jean Lindgren (Pratt), Fargo, ND. Halger was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald Lindgren, Oscar Lindgren, and one sister, Violette Warner. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, December 16 in Olivet Lutheran Church starting at 10 with visitation 1 hour prior to the service in the church.
