Harlan Jordheim, 73, Kindred passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Sanford Health, Fargo.
Harlan was born April 26, 1949, in Fargo, North Dakota to Randolph and Rachel (Hackey) Jordheim. He attended school as a Walcott Wolf and later as a Kindred Viking before attending and graduating from North Dakota State University in 1971.
He married Jackie Iverson on November 27, 1970, at Kindred Lutheran Church. While living in both Fargo and West Fargo, he worked as a journeyman carpenter and in 1974 started farming part time with his first 100 acres. They moved to the farm in 1983 to farm full time.
Family was at the core of Harlan’s life. He believed in the importance of hard work, integrity, and kindness, and with Jackie by his side, they worked hard to instill this in their children. While he was very accepting of most and truly decent to all, he was not impressed by arrogance, dishonesty, or corn in his hotdish.
Harlan was full of fun, always at the ready with a quick-witted joke and a smile in his eyes (never with his teeth showing). He was easy going and required very little to be content, whether it was a having a bonfire, reading a good book, or watching an old western (good or bad). While he is no longer physically here with us, his legacy will live on through the countless stories shared by the many who were touched by the wide net he cast.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jackie, Kindred, ND; children, Lee (Reile) Jordheim, Kindred, ND, Nick (Lisa) Jordheim, Walcott, ND, Jennifer (Kris) Nelson, Fargo, ND; 3 grandchildren, Jansen, Jenner, and Jaeger Jordheim; sister, Maxine Saul; brother, Roger (Cheryl) Jordheim; sister-in-law, Jennifer Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin brothers, and brother in-laws, Terry Saul, Neil Iverson and Bill Shields.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to Walcott Cemetery Association or to the charity of your choice is welcome but not expected.

So glad your family included me in celebrating Easter! Never thought it would be the last time I hugged this special guy! I will cherish all the special times that Harlan and Dave enjoyed the campfire together with our families. Spread your wings and fly, Harlan!
So sorry to hear of Harlans passing, he’ll be missed by all who knew him. 😥
So sorry to hear of Harlan’s passing. We were fraternity brothers at the TKE house at NDSU. He was a great guy with with a great personality and I always admired him.
Burt and I are so saddened to read of Harlan’s passing, he always had a smile on his face and had a welcoming hug! May God wrap his arms around you always Jackie and family!
Very sorry to hear about Harlan’s passing. I have many great memories of times spent with Harlan and Jackie during my years in Kindred. My thoughts and prayers to the entire Jordheim family.
Sorry to hear of Harlans passing. Many good memories as a friend and customer. Sometimes they were crazy. but they are Lynn Hanson that is the ones we will remember.
On a number of occasions my brother Andy and myself spent some long summer afternoons at Harlan’s farm riding their Black Beauty horse and having a wonderful time.
And sitting with Roger, Harlan and their mother at their table at the end of the day – hearing them tell stories and hearing of their older sister’s dating regulations.
Harlan was our starting point guard at KHS when I was a sophomore. He drove a demanding ship.
The year of 1967 we rode all night together with Greg Olson, Harlan, Mr. Seiler and myself to the state track meet in Minot. Harlan was an excellent pole vaulter.
My condolences to his loved ones. May wings carry Harlan to his eternal home.
Sad and shocked to hear Harlan has passed. First met him at Sheyenne 4-H camp. Liked him immediately — didn’t take long for his sense of humor and all-around good nature and great personality to be evident. Please accept my sincere condolences.
So sorry to hear about Harlans passing. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this sad time.
Very sorry to hear of Harlan’s passing. Got to know him at the TKE house at NDSU. He was an interesting and fun person . Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jackie and the family.
I saw Harlan only once since High School in Walcott. He always had a smile, impish grin and a twinkle in his eyes. Great memories!
We were so saddened to hear of Harlands passing, what a great great man he was. Everyone knew him, he had an amazing spirit and people just attached to him very easily. Lin and Jeremy thought of him as one of their best friends. They spent a lot of time with Harl, this is very hard for the Pratschners. We were Blessed to know him. Sending love to you all at this very sad time!
Very sad to hear about Harl’s passing. I was a fraternity brother and roommate of Harlan’s at NDSU. Needless to say, we had a lot of laughs and some wild capers (probably better off not gone into detail here)! One I can mention is the time I returned to our room in the TKE house just in time to find Roger and another frater stuffing a homing pigeon they had caught into Harl’s underwear drawer. It was later on that night when he was getting ready for a big date with Jackie, that he opened the drawer and this thing came flying out! I thought he was going to have a heart attack right then and there! And of course the pigeon had left some deposits in the drawer. Harl being Harl, we had a good laugh and he got over it – but vowed to get even!

I was a fraternity brother of Harlan’s and his roommate for a semester at NDSU. I’ve also had the opportunity to go skiing with Harlan. He was simply a joy to be around. He had integrity and also the great ability to tell stories with his “signature” delivery and chuckle. His love of life and love of family and friends will be missed greatly. Condolences to Jackie and his family.
Jackie. Jean Haga Krueger just texted me about your husband’s passing. I am so sorry. Dianne Carlson Wilkie
first met Harlet through 4-H with Lloyd Olsgard as our leader. fun times there, then high school thru FFA. but. probably the biggest influence that Harlan had on me was in basketball. learned a lot thru him being a great leader on the floor and off. lots of fun times. Jackie, having lost a spouse and knowing what you are going thru to some degree, my heart goes out to you and your kids. Roger and Maxine, all my sympathies. bless your family as you go thru this trial and sorrow.
Jackie and Family,
thanks for sharing these wonderful memories! These pictures made me laugh and made me cry. Harlan was certainly one of a kind and I will never forget his fun-loving, smiling, jovial self. Sending love to all of you – he will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Sincere sympathy to the family! Always enjoyed his smile and sense of humor!! God Bless his memory!! Rita Amundson and family
Good old, Harl, or, as he was nicknamed “Cream Can”. We had more fun that should be allowed in the TKE house. And as the song goes “Those were the days my friend, we thought they’d never end”. We certainly will miss him, I just wished we could have gotten together again before he passed.
Roger and Maxine, so sorry to hear about my good friend, Harlan, I don’t read a newspaper but usually my sister, Geri, will let me know. Not this time, I guess. I remember the good times the three of us had at your parents’ farm, right across the field from me, and the good times at that little one-room schoolhouse,
The world will be a sadder place without Harlan. I just lost a few tears–they just came. Couldn’t stop them, honored to lose them for Harlan.
Your always friend, Jim Nelson
