Harold Leroy Amstrup, age 85, died after a courageous battle with illness on September 3, 2009 in Yerington, Nevada with his wife Dollye at his bedside. He was one of five children born to the late Charles and Agnes Amstrup, on December 14, 1923 and raised on the family farm in Cass County North Dakota. Three children survive Harold and his first wife of forty-five years, Mary Ann Flaa, who preceded him in death in 1992, daughter Randi Kay of Florida, Mark John of Nevada and Charles James (CJ) of California. Harold was one of five children and is survived by two brothers, Norman C. of Fargo, North Dakota, and Carl R. of Green Valley, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews, along with countless friends and other family who were blessed to know him. Harold married MaryAnn Flaa of Kindred, North Dakota in 1947. He served honorably in WWII in the U.S. Navy. Upon discharge he attended North Dakota State University's school of Agriculture. He went on to teach at NDSU before becoming the County Agricultural Extension agent for Wells County, ND. In 1955 Harold went to work for Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 1985 while residing in Walnut Creek, CA. On March 18, 2000 Harold married his second wife, Dollye Arthur and moved to Yerington, Nevada. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on September 19, 2000, at 2 pm at Norman Lutheran Church, rural Kindred, North Dakota. The family requests all donations be sent to the North Dakota State University Alumni Scholarship Fund, North Dakota State University, Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, NDSU Dept. 7620, PO Box 6050, Fargo, North Dakota 58108-6050. Arrangements entrusted to Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND.
