Helen Hoss Hurd Helen Hoss Hurd, 97, of Fargo, ND died on Monday, December 31, 2007, at Bethany Nursing Home, Fargo, ND. Helen E. Varney was born on April 14, 1910 in Barnesville, Minnesota to George and Minnie (Gaugler) Varney. She grew up in Barnesville and Crookston, MN. The family moved to Fargo in 1924. Helen graduated from Fargo High School in January 1929 and from Interstate Business College in January of 1930. On December 26, 1935 she married Leo C. Hoss. He died on November 2, 1966. She married Russell Hurd June 26, 1970. He died June 16, 1975. Through the years Helen was employed by G.M.A.C., the Fargo Moorhead Medical Foundation and Holy Cross Cemetery Association. She is a former board member of the Holy Cross Cemetery Board. Helen and her first husband Leo were charter members of Holy Spirit Church, Fargo, where they worked many hours as volunteers, preparing the church for Christmas and other celebrations. She was a bridge player, and was always up for a game of cards or dice. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher. She had a great sense of humor. She will be missed by all. She is survived by her three children: Dianne (R. Tracy) Myers, Fargo, Steven (Jeanie) Hoss, Valley City, ND, Robert (Carol) Hoss, Fargo; seven grandchildren: Jeffrey Myers, Thomas (Mary) Myers, Catherine (Michael) Myers Altenburg, Mark (Sophie) Hoss, Michael (Michelle) Hoss, Michelle (Jeff) Hoss Moe, and Gregory (Kelly) Hoss; and fifteen great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, her sisters, Lois Anderson, Irene Moore Kubasack, Frances Hansen, and her brothers Ralph Gaugler and George Varney. Memorials are preferred to Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1101 32nd Ave. South, Fargo, ND.
