Howard was born on September 28, 1940, to the late John and Frances Weiss. He was born at St. Ansgar hospital in Moorhead, Minnesota. He lived in Moorhead for his first eight years and then the family moved to Fargo, North Dakota. He graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1958. He then went to Moorhead State College from which he graduated in 1962 with a degree in education. His first two years of teaching were at the high school where he graduated from teaching French.
In 1965 he moved to Southern California where he was employed by the Anaheim Union High School District where he taught until he retired in February of 1999. During all these years he taught French, Spanish and English as a Second Language. He also served as Union representative, department chairman, and faculty president.
In February of 1999, he decided to retire and move to Minnesota where he bought a home and began to enjoy his years of retirement. While living in Maple Grove he was near his brother and his extended family. He was active in Maple Grove Seniors and did his favorite pastime of taking numerous bus tours throughout the United States.
In 2017 he moved to Fargo, North Dakota where he enjoyed independent living at Edgewood Vista. In 2023 he entered St. Catherine’s South nursing facility. Howard had been on kidney dialysis since 2015. In Fargo he was under the excellent care of DaVita Dialysis.
Very sorry to hear of the loss of Howard. I hadnt seen him in quite a few years, but certainly have a lot of memories with him in them.
My condolences to the family. I am praying for you in this time of grief. I knew Howard from Davita. He was on my same treatment shift for much of the past six years. I enjoyed talking to him about his bus tours, teaching and his eclectic taste in music. I will miss him.
