    To the Family

You have my sympathy on the passing of Ilert. A card is in the mail, but I failed to relate that he and I had the same birthday. Ther day that now the world will never forget. Ilert farmed adjacent to my dad, Norris Hagen, and I know they had some good field conversations. Blessings to the family as you grieve your loss. Arla Mae

To the Spelhaug family…we are so sorry to hear of the passing of Iilert. He had such a sense of humor. We are very sorry we could make it for the services but the whole family was in our thoughts and prayers all day and for the days to come as you all come to find the comfort in knowing he is comfortable. Just remember that Harriet is keeping close tabs on him! We have had a difficult year in now the passing of two wonderful people but know that the angels will hold both tightly and take care of them in ways we never could! God bless from our family to yours.

  3. Decorah IAMy brother Ogden and I were just
on the phone remembering Ilert and all of the Spelhaug family that were our neighbors on the farm. Later we enjoyed George
    and Serena Flagstad as special
    neighbors in Wyndmere.

Ilert was a great friend and neighbor to our family. My father and Ilert farmed and raised Hereford cattle and helped each other with several farming activities. I have fond childhood memories of fall silage cutting, herding the cattle to pasture, and vaccinating the calves. I especially remember the many times meeting Ilert on the gravel road and his trademark one finger wave with his hand staying on the steering wheel. Our family and especially my dad couldn’t have asked for a better friend and neighbor. Ilert was there to do chores when we went on vacation and there to weld a part when it got broken. He’ll be missed and I know dad and him are cutting silage together & looking over there herds together in heaven. The Otterson and Spelhaug families aren’t related by blood, but we hold a closer bond than most. David Otterson
