Ina Schlichtmann
February 9, 1925 ~ September 22, 2014
Ina passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.
Ina Tonn was born on February 9, 1925, the daughter of John A. and Bertha (Ellingrud) Tonn, near Hillsboro. She grew up on the family farm, attended country school at Bloomfield #1, and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1943. Ina was united in marriage to Walter Schlichtmann on June 25, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church. Together they made their home north of Blanchard where they raised their family and farmed for many years. Walter and Ina moved into Hillsboro in 1983 and retired from farming in 1985. Walter passed away on October 22, 2002. Ina had most recently made her home at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing since February of 2010.
Ina was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Hillsboro where she was very active in the LWML.
Ina is survived by her son, Richard (Dianne) Schlichtmann of Hillsboro; and her daughter, Mary Jo (Jim) Dodd of Belcourt, ND. Other very important family members in Ina’s life include Richard and Dianne’s children – Darren (Beth) Mayers and their children, Payden and Abby; Janeen (Chad) Slegh and their children, Isaac, Lola, and Ian; Craig (Sarah) Mayers and their children, Carter, Anna, Ryker, and Bria; and Douglas Blumer. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant son; and her brother, Ira Tonn.
The family would like to offer a very special thank you to the entire staff at the Hillsboro Medical Center. The kindness, compassion, and loving way shown to Ina during the past years will always be remembered. The family prefers memorials be directed to the Hillsboro Medical Center, Hospice of the Red River Valley, or to St. John Lutheran Church.
I have been very fortunate to have known Ina for the past few years. She was a very kind person who showed nothing but love to me and my family. She will be missed but never forgotten.
