Ira May Armstrong
October 20, 1948 ~ October 19, 2026
Ira May Armstrong, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19th, 2026 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. She was born on October 20, 1948 in Rolette, ND to Delbert(Debs) and Myra Schindele.
Ira May grew up in Rolette, ND and built a life centered around her family, Furr babies, love for quilting and unwavering support for the Pittsburgh Steelers. On April 21, 1972, she married the love of her life, Roger Loren Armstrong, in Rolette, ND. Together they built an adventurous life, loving home, shared more than five decades of marriage, raised their two children, Clint and Heidi, and created and shared countless memories and experiences together. Following Roger’s passing in January 2025, Ira carried his memory close to her heart and had his thumbprint tattooed on her forearm so that she would always take a part of him wherever she went.
Throughout her life, Ira was known for her snarky wit (which she was very proud of!) kindness, and unwavering dedication to those she loved. Whether caring for family, supporting friends, or welcoming others into her home, she had a remarkable gift for making people feel valued and loved. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with family and friends, quilting and attending her twice per year quilting retreats which she was very passionate about!
Ira enjoyed the simple blessings in life and truly loved connecting with people, sharing never ending stories, a one-of-a-kind humor and wit and her beloved cellphone, which she adored immensely. Ira would often joke about how she had yet to meet an actual stranger in this world as she seemed to draw new friends anywhere she went! This included the local grocery or fabric store. Her warmth, compassion, and huge personality were certain to leave a lasting impression on everyone, fortunate enough to know her.
Ira is survived by her two children: Clint (Chris) Armstrong of Harwood, North Dakota, and Heidi Armstrong (fiancé Patrick Prime) of Palmdale, California.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Colton (Jessi) Armstrong of Fargo, North Dakota; Steele (Elle) Armstrong of Kailua, Hawaii; Hannah (Tatum) Shaffer of West Fargo, North Dakota; Haleigh Boese of Harwood, North Dakota; and Remington (Remi), Sterling, and Daxton.
Ira was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Callum, Krew, and Riggs, children of Steele and Elle; and Emmalynn Marie, daughter of Hannah and Tatum.
She is also survived by numerous extended family members, nieces, nephews, and dear friends, along with her beloved furry companions: Izzy Bea the Corgi and her cherished cats, Sassy and Chatty.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Loren Armstrong; her favorite cousin Jerry Crane, her parents Debs & Myra Schindele; and many other loved ones who welcomed her home.
Ira’s family finds comfort in knowing she and Roger are together once again, reunited in eternal peace after a lifetime of love, laughs and fierce devotion.

We are grieving the loss of your mom with you. All our love to Ira’s kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. What a legacy she leaves in all of you.
Ira was a great coworker and friend. I always counted on her for stability in my classroom, but also a kind heart and no-nonsense personality. She will be greatly missed.
