Irene May Radebaugh Foster was born May 5, 1907 in Bell Township Cass County, North Dakota. Her parents were Charles H. Radebaugh and Margaret Dally Radebaugh who farmed in the Grandin, North Dakota area. She attended school at Bohnsack School, Trail County North Dakota. Irene married Roger Foster of Grandin, ND on October 27, 1926 in Moorhead, MN. Irene and Roger farmed in the Grandin area until 1937. At that time, Irene and Roger purchased their own farm and moved to Amenia, ND. They lived on the farm for sixteen years. They had five children. The family, together, raised mostly wheat, corn and livestock . They kept animals and sold eggs and milk. Like most farm families in the area those years were lean and the family worked hard to survive. The children attended a one-room school across the road from the farm and went to church at Arthur, ND. A special treat during the summer was whenever possible the family would spend time at Island lake in Minnesota fishing. Irene and Roger left the farm in 1953 and moved to Fargo when Roger retired from farming,. It was here that their youngest daughter finished high school. Irene and Roger spent a couple years in Casselton, ND, but finally retired to some lake property on Munson Lake, Detroit Lakes, MN. Irene and Roger had vacationed throughout their married lives in the lake country of Minnesota east of Fargo. They so enjoyed the lake, the wildlife, and the fishing in this area that they spent the golden days of their retirement there. In 1976 the couple moved back to Fargo to be closer to family and healthcare. Irene Foster lived in Fargo until her death. She was 99 years old. Irene loved to farm and garden all her life. All of her homes were well-tended and most contained vegetable and flower gardens. She could feed a massive number of relatives in style and was an avid crocheter and knitter throughout her retirement. She held on to the land that she and Roger had purchased in 1937 and share-cropped it with a local farmer. She followed the progress closely every year and often talked about the land, the weather, the seasons, and the state of the crops. Irene lived in Cass County all her life and she enjoyed talking to her friends that she knew for so many years. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Anderson and son-in-law Ordean of New Prague, MN, her daughter Ruth Bergland and son-in-law Jarl of Brownsville, TX, her son Blake Foster and daughter-in-law Elda of Fargo, ND, her daughter-in-law Margarete Foster of Arthur ND, her sisters Florence Thompson of Hillsboro, ND, Eunice Behlmer of Detroit Lakes, MN and Doris Murdock of Portland, OR, fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren Irene is preceded in death by her husband Roger, her son Charles Foster, Sr, her daughter Carol Lindgren, her grandson Kurt Anderson, her parents and sister Mildred Helgeson, her brothers Arnold Radebaugh, Greer Radebaugh and Dale Radebaugh.
