Irene J. Markey, 78 of Fargo, ND passed away August 28, 2005 in the Palliative Care Unit of Meritcare Hospital of complications of Cancer; Irene Jane Bump was born August 17, 1927 at Camp?s Hospital, Fargo, to Herbert E. And Della E. (Kukowski) Bump. She grew up in Fargo, and graduated from High School at Sacred Heart Academy in 1945. She worked for a short time at Northwest Bell as an operator. On November 7, 1946 she was married to Vernon K. Markey Sr. They had five children. Vern died on June 19, 1994. Irene enjoyed bowling for many years, visiting with her grandchildren and friends. She like to collect and give away Hallmark ornaments Beanie Babies, and was an avid fan and collector of Elvis Memorabilia. In May of this year she was overjoyed to witness the marriage of her granddaughter. For the past two years she resided at Trollwood Village, where she was reunited with former neighbors who raised their families on 3rd Street and 18th Ave. in North Fargo. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Everett) Johnson, Canby, MN; her sons, Gary ?Butch? (Cindy), Moorhead, MN; and Ron (Donna), Las Cruces, NM; and a daughter-in-law, Patty Markey, Fargo. Her grandchildren, Kristen (Roy) Fairchild, Canby, MN; Amber (Duane) Ottenbacher, Huron, SD; Brianne (Derrick) Joens, Watertown, SD; Brandon Johnson, Canby, MN; Erika Markey, Fargo, ND; Jeff and Steve Markey, Moorhead, MN; Ross Markey, Fargo, ND; Angela Markey, Fargo, ND. Her great grandchildren, Rachel and Zachery Ottenbacher, Huron, SD; Jordan Fairchild, Canby, MN; She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Veronica K. Markey; son, Vernon K. Markey Jr.; and brother, Loren E. Bump. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to NDSU towards the Vern Markey Memorial Scholarship fund. Markey was an assistant professor in the Hospitality and Tourism Department. He died on August 10, 2004 in a motorcycle-car crash. The funeral will be at 2:00 P.M.
