Jack E. Hoffert of Fargo, ND, formerly of Knox, ND, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, at St. Catherine’s North in Fargo, ND, with family by his side.

Jack Edward Hoffert was born on September 28, 1950, in Rugby, ND, the son of Louie and Mildred Hoffert.

In 1956, Jack started elementary school in Baker, ND and then transferred to Esmond School. In 1963, the family moved to Knox, ND where Jack continued his schooling, completing 12 years of education in 1968. Upon his completion, Jack began training at the North Dakota Vocational Rehab Centers in Grand Forks and Minot. In 1975, Jack returned to the family farm in Knox, ND and began volunteering at the Rugby Human Services Center in Rugby, ND. In May of 1978, Jack developed another brain tumor, which was successfully removed at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo, ND, spending 6 weeks in the ICU. Upon getting a clean bill of health, Jack remained in Fargo, ND, working at the Svee Home and graduating from their program in March of 1980. Jack met several friends during his training at the Svee Home that he decided to get his own apartment and live independently, with the aid of Cass County Social Services. Jack continued independent living until his health started to decline. In May of 2021, Jack moved into St. Catherine’s North Nursing Home, where he remained until his death.

Jack is survived by his siblings: Tom (Allie), Portland, OR, Rodger (Alice), Grand Forks, ND, Lou Ann, Grand Forks, Barb Volk (Gabe), Mandan, ND, Bob (Kate), Grand Forks. He also leaves 10 nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Holy Spirit Church in Fargo, ND, with visitation one hour prior.
