Jacqueline “Jackie” Marlene (Johnson) Brown, 91, West Fargo, formerly Colgate, ND, died peacefully on October 1st, 2026, at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo, ND.

Jackie was born March 10, 1935, the daughter of Stephen and Nettie Johnson. She was a welcomed surprise as the sixth child in the family. She grew up on the family farm near Minnewaukan, ND and graduated from Minnewaukan High School in 1953.

While in high school, Jackie met the love of her life, Curtis Brown. Curt and Jackie were married August 7, 1955, in Minnewaukan. They moved to Colgate, ND where they built their life and were blessed with four children. One daughter, Susan and three sons, Russell, Patrick and Perry. Curt and Jackie were married for 49 years before Curt went to heaven on October 1, 2004. After Curt’s passing, Jackie continued living in their longtime home for the next 20 years, until the age of 89, made possible only by the loving care and support of her children. In 2024, she moved to Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo.

Jackie was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who poured much of her life into caring for her family. She was a founding member of the 61 Homemakers Club, a member of Colgate Presbyterian Women and was active in the communities of Colgate, Hope and Page. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and reading, and during the winter months, Jackie and Curt often had a jigsaw puzzle spread across the table, picking away at it together throughout the season.

Jackie shared a particularly special bond with her granddaughter, Chelsea. For many years, she lovingly drove Chelsea to and from school in Valley City. While Chelsea was at school, Jackie began volunteering at the Thrifty Shop in town. What started as a way to spend those hours became an important part of Jackie’s life. She volunteered there for many years and served on its board of directors.

Jackie and Curt created traditions that became treasured memories for their family and community. One tradition they greatly enjoyed was when they opened their home, following the Colgate Presbyterian Church Christmas program on Dec. 23, for a Christmas party filled with family, friends and anyone else who wanted to join! For Jackie, there was nothing better than having her entire family gathered in her home, cooking and baking for them and making sure everyone had enough to eat. Her greatest joy came from having the people she loved together under one roof.

Jackie will be remembered for her devotion to her family, the traditions she created for her family and friends and the many simple ways she showed her love throughout her life.

Jackie is survived by her daughter, Susan Hallstrom, Overland Park, KS; sons, Russell (Jeanine) Brown, Colgate, ND, Pat (Judy) Brown and Perry (Cammie) Brown, both of Hope, ND; 15 grandchildren, Luke (Michelle) Brown, Chelsea Brown, Lindsay (Jarrod) Ree, Evan Lautt, Caitlin (Justin) Killoran, Natalie (TJ) Lautt, Cassie Brown, Christine (Andrew) Hemmah, Austin (Jordan) Brown, Caleb Brown, Curtis Brown, Ethan (Katie) Brown and Micayla Brown; and 14 great-grandchildren: Russ’s grandchildren: BriElle, Emercyn, Ava and Spencer Killoran, Leif, Elsie and Holt Hemmah and Jack Brown; Pat’s grandchildren: Xander Brown and Clara and James Ree; and Perry’s grandchildren: Liam Brown and Ezra and Hudson Brown.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curt; her parents, Stephen and Nettie Johnson; brothers, Donald and Darwin (Dubby); sisters, Norma, Shirley and Mildred (Babe).

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Page Cemetery or Hearts in Action (HIA), formally known as the Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Arrangements entrusted into the care of Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center.
