James R. Allen Hillsboro, North Dakota James passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home at the age of 95. James was born on December 20, 1910, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Charles and Sarah (Carothers) Allen. He grew up in Grand Forks where he received his education. James graduated from the University of North Dakota where he was a member of the ATO fraternity. After his schooling he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. James was united in marriage to Emma Henka on November 9, 1948. They made their home in Hillsboro where they owned and operated the Red and White Grocery Store until 1966. James was very active in his community serving on the city commission and the civic and commerce association. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and hunting, was active at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church on the council, and was a member of the Mason?s. James is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Emma; his son, Daniel of Victoria, MN; his daughter, Mary Gray of Boise, ID; and four grandchildren, Quinn, Cavin, and Olivia; and Jennifer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Charles; four brothers; and one sister. Memorials are preferred to the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home, Hospice of the Red River Valley, or a charity of choice.
