James (Jim) Alvin Mock Age 75, of Fargo, ND, passed away Friday October 21st, 2022, at the Fargo VA Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

Jim was born in Moorhead MN, on Feb 5th, 1947, to Elsa (Schroeder) and Alvin Mock. He grew up and attended school in Hawley, MN. He entered the US Army in 1968 and served proudly in Vietnam. He married the love of his life Nancy (Iszler) on October 28th, 1972. They lived in north Fargo briefly, before settling in Moorhead, MN. They moved to Jamestown, ND in 1980, before returning to the Fargo area in 1990 for good.

Jim graduated summa cum laude from Moorhead State University in 1972 after returning from overseas. He was in some type of sales all his life, ranging from insurance, to advertising at the Fargo Forum, to retail farm products at A&T Supply, to Exide Batteries, and back to insurance again, with AAL and then Thrivent.

Jim was an avid woodworker, and spent many hours in his shop, making various projects for around the house, as well as gifts and presents for his family and loved ones. His favorite project was “Jim’s Hideaway”, a pergola on the side of the house that let him enjoy the outdoors rain or shine, nearly year round. He became quite an avid bird (and neighborhood) watcher over the years, as he spent hours there watching the birds, bikers, and dog walkers of the neighborhood.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Jason (Lyn), Grandchildren AJ(MiKayla) Wirtz and Tim Wirtz, Brother Brad, Sisters in Law Iona (Ed) Pasqual and Marlane (Arnie) Middlestead, Brother in law Richard Iszler, 8 Nieces and Nephews, and more friends than we can count.
He was preceded in death by his father Alvin, mother Elsa and Nephew Andrew Mock.

Service will be at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND at 11 AM Tuesday October 25th, preceded by a visitation at 10 AM. Burial at the Fargo National Cemetery will occur at a later date.

In lieu of Flowers, we ask for donations in Jim’s name to the Fargo VA Hospital, in thanks for the wonderful nursing staff that has cared for him over the years.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. So sorry to hear of Jim’s passing, he was one of the first neighbors to welcome us to north Fargo 9 years ago! He was always excited to talk about a Twins game, discuss an upcoming Vegas vacation and catch up. It won’t be the same without him.

  2. Will always remember his smile and infectious way of making people feeling like family when being in his presence. Love you Nancy & Jason!!

  3. JAMES & I grew up together in Hawley – our family (PETTERSEN) lived next door and Jim & I spent lots of time playing together when we were very young. My sincere condolences to His family.

  4. I moved into the neighborhood next to Jim 13 years ago. Over the years we helped each other out on various projects, and borrowed many tools back and forth, if I didn’t have it he did. I will miss his friendly wave from the front porch on my way home. He kept any eye on the neighborhood, and was always friendly to those walking past his hideaway. Things won’t be the same in the neighborhood, my condolences to the family,

  5. this difficult time, We pray for your peace and comfort. Losing a brother in law who is more like a brother and friend is the saddest thing to happen. We will always remember him in our good memories. Please accept our condolences.

  6. Watched the service last night and it was remarkable how people spoke of Jim.
He really impacted the lives of people who knew him. They we spot on and really hit the nail.on the head. Sending our love and sincere condolences from Boston.

  7. Jim was the love of my life. My thanks for all the love and support during the past 2 months while Jim was sick. I couldn’t have gotten through this time without family, friends and neighbors. Jim and I have been blessed in abundance. Love you all, Nancy (Mrs James Mock )
