James Anthony Gunwall, age 41 of Fargo, ND, passed away at his home on 4/12/26.
James was born on February 24, 1985, in Dickinson, ND, to Guy Gunwall and Patti (Jurgens) Burwick.
James most recently worked for several years at Family Fare in Dickinson before transferring to the West Fargo Family Fare in March 2025. He truly enjoyed his work and his coworkers at Family Fare in Dickinson.
Through the years, James treasured and took great solace in hiking in Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Maplewood State Park in Pelican Rapids, MN. He spent many evenings in Theodore Roosevelt Park watching the stars and always made it a point to view the northern lights with other park enthusiasts. He especially enjoyed taking his children, Asher and Zoey, to camp at Maplewood. He had a deep and abiding love for his children and their mother, Amy Graham. Since he was a child, James loved all animals. He loved his mom and Todd’s pups Archie and Miley. They loved him too and showed it by enthusiastically greeting him at the door and jumping in his lap every chance they got!
James is survived by Amy Graham and their children Asher and Zoey Graham of Fargo; his father Guy Gunwall of Dickinson, ND, his mother Patti (Todd) Burwick of Fargo; his little brother Dylan (Tayla) Burwick of Madison, WI; his maternal grandfather Dale Jurgens of Dickinson, ND, and his grandmother Eileen Burwick of Dickinson, ND; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
James was preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandmother Sunda Jurgens, his paternal grandparents Clarence Gunwall, Peggy Gunwall, and Gerald Burwick; his maternal great-grandparents Fred and Edna Jurgens and Barbara Walton; his beloved first cousin Jeffrey Jurgens; and his best friend Skylar Jones.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
In the garden of memory, in the palace of dreams, that is where you and I shall meet. (Lewis Carroll)
