Jim “Big Gym” Beitz Jim passed away on February 18, 2020 at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 50. James Joseph Beitz was born on October 10, 1969, the son of Eugene and Margaret (Adams) Beitz in Hillsboro, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1988. He continued his education at MSUM and finished at MState with a Low Voltage Degree. He worked in the industry in Fargo for 25 years until the physical toll was too much for him to continue. Jim loved snowmobiling, boating and being in the kitchen, making food “his” way. Experimenting with different varieties and versions for each and every recipe. A recipe was just a guide and never spicy enough. Jim enjoyed watching Bison football, Carson Wentz, and the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He also loved endlessly teasing his nieces and nephews. Jim was an “expert” bargainer – prices listed “were just a suggestion” and he was sure to have something to barter with. Jim married the love of his life, Nicki Wetterlin on September 21, 2007 to which he gained a “rental son”, Adam, whom he loved like his own. Jim is survived by his wife, Nicki of West Fargo, ND; his “rental” son, Adam Olson; his parents, Eugene and Margaret Beitz of Hillsboro; and his siblings – Dan (Barb) Beitz of Morton Grove, IL; Kathy (Paul) Teegarden of Hunter, ND; Tom Beitz of Hillsboro; Kris (Rocky) Pastian of Hillsboro; Dennis (Heather) Beitz of Mankato, MN; and Kari (Cameron) Larson of Harwood, ND; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Jerry Wetterlin of Glyndon, MN; his mother-in-law, Kathy Wetterlin of Moorhead, MN; and brother-in-law, Aaron Wetterlin of Moorhead. Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents - Lawrence and Loretta Beitz, and Jim and Elaine Adams; and his uncles – Rudy Reinpold, Norm Adams, and Richard Delaney. Jim does not want tears, but many stories and laughter. 2. My heart breaks to hear of Jim’s passing. I have so many funny, memorable and crazy memories of Jim! He had the best sense of humor and always good for a laugh. 4. Gene, Margaret, Tom, and all of Jim’s family:

May your memories of your loved one be your support and joy as you go through this time of grieving. I am grateful for having known Jim. I am very thankful for the kind, caring friendship he gave to my Dad Bill, in the home and hospital they both resided at in Hillsboro. He never failed to reach out to me as I came to visit, sometimes just stopping by the waiting room, hallway, or Dad’s room to say “Hello”.
My most sincere prayers and sympathies are extended to you in your loss of a very courageous young man. May our God welcome him home and give Jim peace and life eternal, free of the earthly bonds he endured while in our midst.

  5. I so enjoyed visiting with “Big Gym”, sampling his creations and listening to his stories. My heart goes out to all of you.

  6. Sorry to hear about Jim, we want to give our condolences for your loss, he will be in our thoughts and prayers. We are in Fort Wayne, In. with grand kids and not able to be at the funeral service.

    Mary Sue & Neil Boeddeker

  7. I wish I could come up with a quick funny comment like I know Jim would. I’m sure he could come up with a one liner that would sum it all up. My brother once told me that there is certain amount of tears for every tragic event and I’m sure you all are finding that out. My thoughts and prayers are with you all

  8. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. Jim was just between the ages of our kids, Jason and Angie Foss. He was too young but I like what he indicated that he didn’t want tears, just stories and laughter. Becky and Ray Foss

  9. Prayers and blessing for peace Nicki. This has to be so hard for you but you have some wonderful memories to help you get thru the tuff times. Know that we are thinking of you.
